Universe Size
I keep running tests on a rather large universe, roughly 30-35 leagues, and I can usually sim up to 4-5 years, but usually in October in the 5th year I get the nasty OOTP 8 Runtime Error. I've been reading this thread for some possible answers, and I've come to the conclusion it has something to do with the incompetence of my somewhat aged computer. Specs are XP SP2, 1.8 GHZ processor, 1 GB RAM (soon to be 2GB) and I believe 128 MB video....I'm not on it right so I can't access manufacturer specifics. Now, I know an universe with 30+ leagues is rather large, but I'm trying to do something a little "realistic"...can anyone give me some information on whether they believe the bug has something to do with the limitations on my system? I kept all leagues stats to "Normal" but now that I remember there were a couple of other things I could have changed to decrease the wear on my hardware. Also, I use the "simple dialogue" preference for sims.

Yes, this is entirely likely to be a system limitation. You are running a whole lot of leagues there.
In order to help your computer run the game better, try turning down your stat levels for all leagues, not saving game logs or box scores (and deleting the ones that you already have, along with all of your news/messages), turning off scouting (if you don't care about it), turning off hidden players (if you don't care about it - you can only toggle this at a universe startup), and don't keep career L/R splits or fielding stats or postseason stats. Is there anything else that I can help you with here? |

Thank you Nutlaw. I turned down the settings on all of my leagues, and I'll follow suit for future games.
