Interesting Occurence
At least I thought it was interesting. I play out all my games and don't remember ever seeing this before. One of my star sluggers got hit a by a pitch 3 times, intentionally walked once, and drew a walk another time. He therefore reached base all 5 times he came up but didn't have a single at-bat. He made the most of it though, stealing two bases on the day.

I think IRL if a "star slugger" was plunked 3 times in the same game there'd be a whole lot of real slugging going on between both benches.

I think I got this tidbit from Baseball Almanac (I used it for my hints file):
"Did you know that Jimmie Foxx is the only American League player to have six plate appearances and zero at-bats? In a show of true respect, he was walked six times on June 16, 1938." I will also mention the memory that I have of High Heat Baseball never having a walk or HBP occur in a game that was played out. No triples, either IIRC. It just was not programmed properly, I guess, and not a priority to fix either. To get somewhat realistic seasonal statistics in those categories, I had to sim the vast majority of games or overlook the shortfalls. I remember overlooking them. Nothing to do with your post, I guess. Just thoughts on a Monday night. |
