OOTP8 crashes at start-up
Just bought OOTP8. As soon as I attempt to fire up OOTP8, it crashes. "ootp8.exe has encountered a problem..." I've uninstalled and reinstalled, same problem. According to the FAQ I should update my video card drivers, I did and it didn't help.
I'm still using AppVersion 2.0.0.0. The OOTP2007 patch doesn't work as it's looking for ootp2007.exe. Is there a way to patch OOTP8? I can't find any info on this. PC: IBM T43 Video: ATI Mobile Raedon X300 OS: WinXP SP2 HD: About 8 out of 60GB free

The latest patch can be found here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...-0-0-13-a.html
Have you gotten OOTP 2007 to run on your computer in the past? Regardless, you may wish to uninstall, delete all of the OOTP folders (in Program Files, Application Data, and My Documents), then reinstall. Occasionally, the installation process will go awry and cause issues such as this. |

I think the last version I had was OOTP 2006, and I'm not sure I ever ran it on this laptop. Quote:

Anyone?
![]() I've purchased every version of OOTP since v3 (but not 2007) and it's always worked well, so I guess I should complain too much. |

Just to verify, can you post your processor speed and RAM, please?

I tried OOTP 2007 demo with and without the latest patch, both crashed at startup as well, as well as OOTP 2006 demo. They ask me to register, then I hit "Trial", then it crashes.
BTW, I have plenty of other software on this laptop and never had any problems with any of it. There's something common about the OOTP code base that's causing it to crash. Last edited by pschwar; 04-13-2008 at 06:41 AM. |

Sorry, I'm not entirely sure of what to suggest here. Your laptop should be more than able to run the game.
Which operating system are you using? If Vista, are you running the game in administrator mode? |

Thanks for all your help here! Just curious, are you just a big fan of OOTP or tech support? If tech support, is there a way I can run it in trace mode or something and upload files so you can take a closer look at my problem? |

Er, yes to both, at least as much as the latter exists. I'm a volunteer and beta tester.

Just be sure to change the installation path to fit OOTP 8. |

I edited that file, changed the trace_mode attribute, ran OOTP8 again...it didn't create a ootp.log file anywhere (it's showing hidden files).
I noticed that OOTP8 comes with an option to start in trace mode, I ran that, no log file was created. I'm guessing the app crashes before it even begins to create a log file? |

Wow. Huh. Do you have any anti-virus software running? If so, could you try disabling it long enough to run the game?

What do you think the software is doing? Not allowing a .log file to be written? |

When you wrote that you have plenty of other software on there, does that include games? If so, which ones? Anything else with eLicense software involved? |

So what do I need to do to get a refund? Well, I'll at least hang around to OOTP9 demo comes out and try that, but if OOTP2006 and OOTP2007 all throw the same error, I have a feeling that OOTP9 will do the same.

You would want to contact support@elicense.com to see about a refund, but you could maybe ask them about your issues and see if they have any suggestions.
Without being able to modify more of what's running on your laptop, I don't have any other ideas. Is there anything else that I can help you with? |
