Converting from OOTP6

How difficult is it to convert from OOTP 6 to OOTP 8? What do I stand to lose in the conversion? I really want to buy the game, but I am invested in a league I have started in OOTP 6. Thanks.

Very good question. Unfortunately not everything comes over from the switch. All your players from your entire history and **most** of their stats will convert. Their text-based history does not, but their Awards and HoF status do convert.

The big problem is that League history does not convert at all. You will lose your entire team history and team stats and all league history (including championships). The reason is that all of that was stored in flat text files and not in a DB making it hard to convert. In the end it was decided that it wasn't worried. The general consensus is that that was a bad idea, but nothing we can do about it. I had over 100 years of history in OOTP6. I just keep a quick link to my 6 history, so that although it is not saved in game, it is saved on my computer.

Another thing that didn't convert that annoyed many people was minor leagues. You'll have to reconstruct them.

Here is my suggestion: Use the demo to convert your league. Try it out for a week and see if the new game behaves to your liking. If you are comfortable with loss of data, buy the game and play on. Otherwise enjoy OOTP6.

If you go to his web site (PlanetOOTP. the place to get the best OOTP Utilities), you will see some programs that look like they do what you want, particularly AU6XHISTORY. His e-mail address appears there and perhaps he would tell you a bit more about how that utility works if you asked.

Also, there is a sticky thread at the top of the Mods - Database Tools forum here, called Anderson Utilities 2006 (Comedian2004 is Anderson's logon name). It's an old thread, but I think you will find some information in there as well.

I've never worked with any of his stuff, and some of it looks a bit dated to this untrained eye (there are some 2007 updates, however), but maybe some reading and e-mailing will give you the assurance that you need to give it a try.
