Parker retains title
January 16th 2004 - WBC Light Heavyweight champion Jason Parker (38-1-0 [36]) scored his 38th career win and defended his WBC crown for the first time tonight as he easily beat Markus Scott (14-6-2 [8]) from French Polynesia by second round knockout. Parker had recieved a lot of heat from the boxing community for defending his title against a virtually unknown fighter, and this quick knockout proves that the former Super Middleweight WBA champion, who was dethroned by Nigerian Mezgebu Mazomakali in November 2002 by a wide unanimous decision, may have chosen an unworthy opponent for his first title defence. Other upcoming championship bouts: January 23rd 2004 - WBA Featherweight - Larry Marshall (30-2-0) vs. Bernie Morrow (25-1-2) January 30th 2004 - IBF Junior Lightweight - Sergio Dias (23-0-0) vs. Matthew Collier (22-2-3) February 6th 2004 - WBC Heavyweight - Mike Lewis (26-3-0) vs. Chris Anderson (36-5-0) February 27th 2004 - WBO Super Middleweight - Sebastian Flaake (27-1-1) vs. Antonio Martinez (22-1-2) March 5th 2004 - WBO Junior Lightweight - Felipe Gonzalez (30-0-0) vs. Ignacio Medina (26-0-0) March 5th 2004 - WBA/WBC Middleweight - Pancho Aguila (27-0-0) vs. Johnny McNeil (36-3-0) March 12th 2004 - WBO Heavyweight - Romel Hugo (24-2-0) vs. Louis Attrill (28-1-0) March 26th 2004 - IBF Welterweight - Udo Wohlgemuth (22-0-0) vs. Raul Medellin (31-7-1) April 9th 2004 - WBA Lightweight - Edwin Wood (29-2-0) vs. Kenan Atu (27-0-0) April 23rd 2004 - Featherweight WBC/IBF Unification - Ivan Rodréiguez (37-0-0) vs. Angel Cota (42-0-0) April 30th 2004 - WBA Cruiswerweight - Fraser Anderson (34-0-0) vs. Marcus Dormer (26-1-0) May 14th 2004 - WBO Junior Welterweight - Les Smith (33-0-0) vs. Elias Coulon (25-3-3) June 4th 2004 - WBO Featherweight - Freddy Fisher (23-0-0) vs. Andrea Lombroso (24-4-0) |

Marshall beats Morrow by UD
Australian WBA Featherweight champion Larry Marshall (31-2-0 [13]) successfully defended his title for the third time today, his first mandatory defence, against American Bernie Morrow (25-2-2 [6]). Marshall edged Morrow 117-111, 116-113 and 116-114 on the judges' scorecard after a well-dispuded fight. Morrow tried to keep the fight as a boxing match, but the champion's aggressiveness and willingness to turn it into a war was what won him the fight. Heavyweight excitement?
For the first time since the Gary Moore-Rupert Godwin fight back in 1993, we may have a heavyweight bout as fight of the year. Two very different boxers came in the ring in the WBC championship fight between Mike Lewis (27-3-0 [24]) and Chris Anderson (36-6-0). Lewis was in superb shape, as the smallest of the four heavyweight champions looked very quick and strong. On the other hand, Anderson, who measured at 6'9", seven inches taller than his opponen, was somewhat fat and slow, but looked much more powerful. Lewis dominated the first two rounds, even knocking down the huge Anderson in the second round. The wind turned though and Anderson looked like he was too strong for Lewis who's face was starting to show some major swelling. In the fifth round, Lewis was knocked down and looked like he would not be able to continue, but he somehow got up and the referee decided to let the fight go on. Lewis survived the round, and even came back strong in a well disputed sixth round. Finally, in the seventh round, Lewis landed a great hook directly to his opponent's chin that ended the fight. Lewis retained his heavyweight title in his third defence. Other upcoming championship bouts: February 27th 2004 - WBO Super Middleweight - Sebastian Flaake (27-1-1) vs. Antonio Martinez (22-1-2) March 5th 2004 - WBO Junior Lightweight - Felipe Gonzalez (30-0-0) vs. Ignacio Medina (26-0-0) March 5th 2004 - WBA/WBC Middleweight - Pancho Aguila (27-0-0) vs. Johnny McNeil (36-3-0) March 12th 2004 - WBO Heavyweight - Romel Hugo (24-2-0) vs. Louis Attrill (28-1-0) March 26th 2004 - IBF Welterweight - Udo Wohlgemuth (22-0-0) vs. Raul Medellin (31-7-1) April 9th 2004 - WBA Lightweight - Edwin Wood (29-2-0) vs. Kenan Atu (27-0-0) April 16th 2004 - WBA Junior Middleweight - David Torin (29-0-0) vs. Andrew Cook (28-3-4) April 23rd 2004 - Featherweight WBC/IBF Unification - Ivan Rodréiguez (37-0-0) vs. Angel Cota (42-0-0) April 30th 2004 - WBA Cruiswerweight - Fraser Anderson (34-0-0) vs. Marcus Dormer (26-1-0) May 7th 2004 - WBA Welterweight - Yazid Hébert (29-0-0) vs. Fred Barraclough (22-2-0) May 14th 2004 - WBO Junior Welterweight - Les Smith (33-0-0) vs. Elias Coulon (25-3-3) May 21st 2004 - IBF Heavyweight - Sergei Gogolev (27-0-1) vs. Dac Kien Do (35-6-0) May 28th 2004 - WBC Junior Welterweight - Craig Morris (28-1-0) vs. Jose Renteria (20-3-0) May 28th 2004 - IBF Junior Middleweight - Julio Deléon (26-6-2) vs. Rommel Cobrera (27-8-1) June 4th 2004 - WBO Featherweight - Freddy Fisher (23-0-0) vs. Andrea Lombroso (24-4-0) June 11th 2004 - WBO Light Heavyweight - Manuel Rios (29-4-0) vs. Joyo Prawiranega (27-2-1) |

February 20th 2004 - Gala Quebox I
Patrice Lemieux (0-0-0) vs. Nick Cunningham (0-2-0) Junior Middleweight - 6 Rounder Round 1 Lemieux comes out looking very good, it doesn't show that this is his first professionnal fight. Lemieux is landing very well for most of the round and doesn't get hit back. Impressive double body hook by Lemieux at the end of the round, but Cunningham gets back with a right direct. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lemieux Round 2 Cunningham held his own for the most part of the second round, even though Lemieux was the aggressor. Lemieux finally got going in the last thirty seconds and shook his opponent badly with a few seconds left. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lemieux ; 20-18 Lemieux Round 3 A boxing lesson from Lemieux. He showed the extent of his talent by landing at will, throwing combinations from both hands and keeping at good distance to prevent his opponent from landing anything. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lemieux ; 30-27 Lemieux Round 4 Cunningham is starting to look very bad in there as Lemieux is hitting with more power. Cunningham started fighting more conservatively towards the end, pretty much running away from Lemieux. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lemieux ; 40-36 Lemieux Round 5 Lemieux starts toning down on his intensity, maybe lacking a bit of gas. He is still dominating his opponent, who sees a point taken away by the referee for a low blow. Jutras scorecard: 10-8 Lemieux ; 50-44 Lemieux Round 6 A boring sixth round with both fighters out of energy and Cunningham holding and grabbing for the entire round. Jutras scorecard: 10-10 ; 60-54 Lemieux Judges' decision Pascal Picard scores the bout 60-53 Raymond Malette scores the bout 60-54 Jeff Pandolfo scores the bout 60-54 The winner by unanimous decision, Patrice Lemieux. |

Jifar Machupa (3-0-0 [1)) vs. Albert Mitchell (3-6-1 [1])
Cruiserweight - 6 Rounder Round 1 Mitchell doesn’t look like he’s In the same league as Machupa, who lands very sharply early on and completely dominates the first round. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Machupa Round 2 A slower round where Mitchell didn’t look as bad, holding whenever he was in danger. Machupa was less active, jabbing Mitchell through the round and only throwing aggressively towards the end. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Machupa ; 20-18 Machupa Round 3 The round started with a boom as Machupa showed excellent one-punch power by sending Mitchell to the canvas with a beautiful cross to the chin. Mitchell looked stunned, but got back up and waited for the eight count. Machupa dominated the rest of the round without putting Mitchell in danger again. Jutras scorecard: 10-8 Machupa ; 30-26 Machupa Round 4 More or less one quarter of the expected attendance has filled their seats yet, and this fight has nothing to keep them too excited. Machupa is dominating his opponent and is showing that even at this stage of his career, this fight is a huge mismatch. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Machupa ; 40-35 Machupa Round 5 Machupa came out with the intention to finish the fight, and it almost looks like he could have done it at will at any time. He was very aggressive, throwing combinations on an overmatched opponent who was sent to the canvas two times and didn’t try to get up at the count of ten on the second knockdown. The winner by 5th round KO, Jifar Machupa! |

Éric Corbin (11-0-0 [11]) vs. Guillermo Andres (22-9-1 [14])
Junior Lightweight - 10 Rounder Round 1 Corbin imposes his rhythm soon in the fight, landing decisively on the 39-years-old Andres. Corbin seems to be landing punches at will, and by the end of the round we can already see some signs of swelling around Andres’ eyes. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Corbin Round 2 Corbin starts the round very aggressively, and one minute in he sends Andres to the canvas with a three punch combination that ended with a powerful left hook to the body. Andres quickly got up, but he barely even landed a single punch until the end of the round. Jutras scorecard: 10-8 Corbin ; 20-17 Corbin Round 3 Corbin continued showing why he is considered one of boxing’s most promising prospects in the third round. After landing at will for the first minute and a half, Corbin finished the job by landing a stunning right hook that sent Andres to the canvas for good. The winner by 3rd round KO, Éric Corbin! Coming up next, the main event 12-round Super Middleweight fight between Mathieu Lacenaire (31-3-1 [20]) and American David Greer (16-1-0 [9]). |

Mathieu Lacenaire (31-3-1 [20]) vs. David Greer (16-1-0 [9])
Super Middleweight - 12 Rounder Round 1 Both fighters are studying each other early in the fight. The bigger Lacenaire is using his jab well early on, but we can already see that Greer's southpaw stance and his aggressiveness are going to be a problem to Lacenaire who eats a few good shots through the round. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Greer Round 2 Greer landed nicely to start the round, but Lacenaire took control halfway in, throwing nice combinations at his opponent. It was a close round, but Lacenaire gets the edge for a better control of the action. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lacenaire ; 19-19 Round 3 Lacenaire starts the round very well, landing a few nice shots. Greer looked stunned by a right cross early on, but Lacenaire couldn't continue. The crowd is already chanting for Lacenaire, but it seems to be giving wings to Greer instead. Greer came back at the end of the round with relentless aggression. Jutras scorecard: 10-10 ; 29-29 Round 4 Greer worked inside for most of the round and Lacenaire wasn't able to contain him. The American certainly did some damage during that round, his best of the night. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Greer ; 39-38 Greer Round 5 Greer extended his lead early in the fifth round, but Lacenaire made a nice comeback halfway in to steal the round. Lacenaire landed some nice combinations that seemed to hurt Greer. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lacenaire ; 48-48 Round 6 A very exciting sixth round in which the wind turned again; Lacenaire was in control for the first part but Greer made a great comeback towards the end, hurting Lacenaire with a nice arsenal of punches. Lacenaire's face is starting to swell up. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Greer ; 58-57 Greer Round 7 Lacenaire was more passive during the seventh round, defending more effectively and keeping his opponent on the outside with his jab. Still, Greer was the aggressor and landed the better shots, so he has to take that round. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Greer ; 68-66 Greer Round 8 Lacenaire started the eight round with new found energy, and it showed as he sent Greer to the canvas with a nice right uppercut thirty seconds in. Greer got back on his feet, but still looked kinda wobbly. Greer held in there for a minute until Lacenaire unleashed a solid two-punch combination that sent Greer to the ground again. The American was able to survive the rest of the round. Jutras scorecard: 10-7 Lacenaire ; 76-75 Lacenaire Round 9 The crowd was chanting Lacenaire as the round started, and the fighter from Joliette looked like he wanted to finish it quickly, starting the round with a commanding cross. He may have been over-aggressive though as Greer landed a cross of his own a minute later that sent Lacenaire to the canvas. Lacenaire got back to his legs immediately, but this may have been an important point loss. Jutras scorecard: 10-8 Greer ; 85-84 Greer Round 10 Lacenaire recieved some heat from his cornermen between rounds, and he certainly came out and made them forget the 9th round during this one. Lacenaire was dominant in all aspects, except he wasn't able to send his opponent to the canvas. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Lacenaire ; 94-94 Round 11 Greer had a nice eleventh round as he tried to be as aggressive as he was early on in the fight. He landed some powerful shots and even seemed to shake Lacenaire towards the end. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Greer ; 114-113 Greer Round 12 The fighter who wins this last round should have a solid option on the win. Greer catched Lacenaire with a sweet uppercut early in the round, and Lacenaire was shaken. The Canadian fighter didn't look like he was able to reccuperate as his opponent looked hungrier and dominated this last round. Jutras scorecard: 10-9 Greer ; 114-112 Greer Judges' decision Raymond Malette scores the bout 114-112 for Greer Emilio Rodriguez scores the bout 113-112 for Lacenaire Ray Vanbiesbrook scores the bout 113-113 This fight is a draw! |
