Here, here! Online is what keeps me coming back to OOTP, solo play doesn't give me nearly as much enjoyment as online leagues do.

This is the 21st century... Even if something looks good and does its job you're not allowed to keep the status quo. Making something look different seems to make a large percentage of the population think it's new, though at least Markus has made changes to the substance and not just the style.

I don't have a problem with the interface or skin or whatever, and would like developments in other areas...but a lot of people do want the UI changed. Remember the many many threads that accuse OOTP7/8 of being too hard to do things, hard to read, hard to navigate, etc etc, compared to 6.5. Just to keep these people happy, something had to be done...havent heard much from those critical fooeys in this thread tho

You've been registered here, like, 13 weeks, tops, and you can already call people critical fooeys? Um, ok. |

I've been here forever, and owned every version of the game, and can honestly say OOTP8 is by far the best version in the series. Sometimes I get the feeling a lot of people who don't like the new version and keep reverting to 6.5 are just nostalgia geeks who don't feel realism is always fun, and want OOTP to be more of a quick and easy game, rather than a deep GM simulation. I've always said that if you're in the 6.5 camp, maybe OOTP isn't the game you're looking for anymore, but some people just won't accept that and would rather the game go backwards just to suit their needs and wants.

I guess I'm just hoping that Marcus (and crew) has seriously taken into consideration the needs of the online player/league. Our needs aren't so different than the solo player in that we want certain features and we want them to work well. But IMO, for what is still at its core a text based game, things like sound and skins pretty much add up to nothing but fluff.

I, for one, have no problem with the price. It's a write-off for me anyway as business entertainment

Just to add fuel, I'm getting OOTP 9, but only because I switched to Macs at my office and need to get a new copy anyway . . .
I suggest you all run out and get an iMac so you too will have an excuse to get a new shiny copy of OOTP. |

Only way I'll get suckered in again is if there is a nice demo or some really, really nice looking screen shots that show me a much improved interface and playable game. Otherwise looks like another OOTP-less year. I guess I just gotta work on getting OOTP5 playable on a Mac. |

You just can't accurately compare the two. Different sports. Different types of games for different types of gamers. For one thing, the historical aspect of OOTP makes it an entirely different animal. As for the deeper gameplay...I have played every version of SI's game since CM 01/02, and I have always thought the AI cheats and that 'tactics' really do not work, and that the overwhelming importance of 'tactics' over player quality is far from realistic. Many people on the SI boards agree. I do have fun with FM/WWSM, but the game is not realistic, can be an exercise in frustration and often feels like work, like you are not really running a soccer team but looking for ways to exploit weaknesses in the AI. On the other hand, I always have fun with OOTB baseball. |

I love OOTP 8, but I do still play OOTP 5 just for a change of pace. |

I agree with Antonin.
OOTP has way better customizability and is much better for fictional play than WWSM. WWSM seems to be much better at all the things I like to be able to turn off when playing OOTP.

Thanks for the update Markus.
I understand everything you have said and the reasons for the price increase, look forward to another long year of enjoyment on my favorite computer game. |

Don't get me wrong, I am also of opinion that 2007 and OOTP8 are by far the best versions, but I also have a great deal of respect for the people who prefer the earlier versions. They were the people who helped support this game all through the early years and helped it grow in many ways. They have every right to express their opinion without being labelled as selfish. |

I suppose you could say that you're not buying any of the 300 albums and just listening to them through Amazon or something, but I'm sure there are at least a handful that you listen to that you'd actually want to buy. $40 for a game you'll get many more hours out of isn't that much. If you felt you were screwed last time you pre-ordered, then don't pre-order. Wait for the demo. That's the same thing as listening to the album before buying it. I can understand (though disagree with) complaints about the game not being what you want or not liking it or bugs or whatever... but complaining about the cost of a $40 game is pretty silly. It's not that much money. 50 cents a day until release should get you pretty close. Could get that sitting on the curb with a styrofoam cup asking for spare change.
