mystery historic league problem(plus some fun notes on my league)
For some odd reason the only year I have been successful in playing w/o crashing is 1976(historic league). I have repeated this a few times where I sim'd out leagues from 1976 and on and had no problem. I even removed and redownloaded ootp8 and still it is the same thing....1976 work and all other years I attempt to start on will crash right after the world series on the 1st year sim'd.
The nice thing is that 1976 does work and has allowed me to play and marvel at how much better ootp 8 is then my last ootp(ootp 6). I can't even stress how much I am loving playing this game but I wish I could choose what year I wanted to start instead of being forced to play from 1976 on. so...any clues on what the problem may be??? I have the mac version FYI and one thing I'm sure of its not a lack of memory...etc...i'm good to go on the computer side of it.....just can't seem to get the game working right. a little side note(non problem related).... I'm 18 years into my 1976 sim(1st one from ootp where i'm controlling my team that is) and I know alot of you like to see some highlights of certain peoples performances so I figured I'd add a few..... First off I always use to play fictional on ootp8 and never thought i'd like historic but now I can't believe how wrong I had it. I love how each year is imported and affect the ratings. I use to hate how on fictional there was rarely up and down seasons. I've noticed much more realistic statistical outcomes of the majority of players....but one thing I have enjoy most is the ability to keep certain players going whose careers were cut short. I also enjoy the "unretire" option that allows certain individuals to play out there careers(a la Tommy John.....even though in my league Tommy John was an absolute marvel and would not quit and still had good pitching seasons into his mid 40's) so here are a few of the players that really stand out for me... Pascual Perez. I saw him on the free agent list in 86 and his stats were decent and I needed to pick some one up after a few injuries and added him. He didn't play but in 1 game that whole season and let 1 hit in 2 innings. I always loved watching him pitch as a kid so I figured I'd keep him as a "just in case of injury". So spring roles around and I see 5 stars in front of his name!! Mind you he was 30 at this point and had a few good seasons prior but.... here is the results since.... 1987 26-8 2.61 242k's 1988 22-9 2.79 187k's 1989 23-9 2.89 197k's now the 5 season after he had 2 more 20 game seasons and pitch solid. he's now 37 and has a career record of 214-118 and 3.25 era also 3 cy youngs.... my other standout pitcher was Ron Guidrey by far. The first year(1976) I played my team was barely above .500 ball for the season and he went 21-8. In 1977 he was amazing...my team was 15 games under .500 yet he was 27-5. He probably could have won 30 if I didn't have such an affinity with keeping certain players and making sure they played over players that might be better. Hell I kept Thurman Munson into the mid to late 80's when he barely hitting over the mendoza line. overall however Guidrey ended up 238-130 with a 3.46 era. not shabby at all. JR Richards was another who I traded a boat load for in 1977 only to trade him 2 years later after going 26-6 and collecting a Cy Young for me. After he left me he went on to become the most dominant pitcher of the 80's and collected 4 more Cy Young Awards. Those were some of the rarities....but for the most part many of the players came out with very similar stat lines as when they retired. Guys like Carlton, Brett, Schmidt, Stargell etc were dead on. One of my favorite moments however was watching Tommy john pitch for 300. He was on Atlanta and I all but forgot about him until my 2nd time in the WS i came up against him and his Braves. The second game of the series I saw the match up and I had my best pitcher at the time against him and thought I had a great advantage. He tossed a 1 hit shut out against me and I ended up losing the series. That was 1987 and he was 44 at the time and went 14-7 with a 3.55 era. he had 262 wins at the time so I kept and eye on him. I'm thinking 1 bad year and he's going to retire. The next season came and passed and 14-7 2.55. Then the next 9-8 2.59. and the one after 11-10 5.51 and I thought for sure he was a gonner at 46 and a bad season but he wanted 300 and came back for the last 10-9 4.74. I should point out in that 1987 year...his playoff line was.... 3 games 2-1 1.04 26ip 14hits 3run 5bb 9k's and 2cg 1 shutout of course. anyhow.... hope you enjoyed.... and hope of course you know a solution to my little 1976 only problem Last edited by ootp8fan; 01-28-2008 at 01:20 AM. |

Sorry for the delay in responding to this question.
Are you using the latest patch of OOTP8? When you start the historical league are you importing complete history? If you are can you try starting in a different year but not import complete history. If you aren't importing it, can you try a different year and import complete history?
