What's that, giving youth for rentals?

And Anaheim's second round pick for NEXT YEAR Pettinger, while 27, has totally stunk it up this season. Who knows how Ruth will turn out, he's not even in the Caps' top 3 d-men prospects. They're not over-spending IMO.

I know but you would have preferred a higher return. I'm just saying WSH didn't give up their future by a long way in today's deals.

Hell yeah, I'd love to get Ovechkin .

But seriously, can the Capitals finish 3rd in the East? I've made my feelings known about that rule (If you absolutely wanted to have a team from each division in the playoffs, you could put them where they belong instead of 3rd), but can they still catch up in their division? If they don't, and even if they do, they still hurt their future unless they can sign Huet to an extension. It's a gamble, and it could pay off if they go far in the playoffs, but I'm not in love with what they've been doing as much as you.

Well, they're 5 points back with 2 games in hand and 2 games left with Carolina. Certainly seems possible.

Of course it's a risk but their odds improve with Huet rather than Kolzig, that's for sure. They could have made some moves earlier, and I probably would not have waited until today, but they are 5 points behind the Canes with two games in hand. It could come down to the two games they play against each other March/April - Carolina led the season series 4-2 btw.

I feel sorry for the BJ's as I truly felt this was the year they made the playoffs

Hossa to Pittsburgh! Along with Dupuis, in exchange for Staal.

Well, according to Bob Hartley, anyway.

A gamble (and perhaps a high price if they don't keep him) but stacked is an understatement for the Pens.

And you can add Dupuis to the Pens

I don't see the Pens signing Hossa, not with the $$$ they'll need to keep Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Staal, Letang. Otherwise they end up like Tampa, with over $20M a year going to 3 players. We all saw how that handcuffed the Lightening.

It's a lot to give up for a rental player. Makes them an offensive juggernaut for the rest of the regular season. After last seasons bust in the playoffs by Hossa it will be intersting to see what he does this year.... another bust or a big hit?
