I wouldn't be surprised with Halak and Price in Montréal for the rest of the year. Dwayne Roloson, who I've mentioned before, would be a good fit as a veteran to shoulder Price. But, Halak was solid last year with the Habs, much more solid than Roloson has been recently. Halak is not a bad backup goaltender at all. The TSN panel has said a lot of stuff about Price that's pretty much right, with everything he's won last season. He's clearly not a Luongo yet, though, but the Habs never hid that they were in it for 2008-2009, for the team's centennial, and maybe they just wanted Price to get as much experience as possible until then.

There's a lot of conjecture how this puts too much pressure on Price, and that may be true. On the other hand though, and this is also conjecture, maybe it's just what he needs.
Last season he played for an average team in the WHL, Everton, and played well. When they got knocked out of the WHL playoffs he was sent to an average Bulldogs team in the AHL and thrown into the fire. How did he perform? He led them to the Calder Cup and won MVP of the post season. Can he repeat that feat at the highest level, maybe, maybe not. Time will tell. The Habs have a history of success with rookie goalies, Dryden, Roy, and even Steve Penny, although Penny was a flash in the pan. I still think they could have gotten more for Huet but that deal leads me to believe something bigger is in the works and the 2nd rounder from the Caps will be flipped as part of that deal. |

On the Forsberg deal: sure, he's got a contract, but in a true Forsberg style, it's still unclear when he'll start playing hockey again: Quote:

Well, pissed isn't the word. The pick they sent to Montreal is Anaheim's 2009 pick which the Caps acquired for Brian Sutherby. This projects to be a very late 2nd round pick. Not a good deal at all, Huet was worth more than that.

Conditional first rounder for Foote. 08 if the Avs make the playoffs, 09 if they do not.
EDIT: Plus the Jackets get another undisclosed pick if Foote re-signs. Awesome work by Scott Howson. Last edited by Big Hugg; 02-26-2008 at 02:34 PM. |
