Defecting Players (?)

I can't figure out what's going on here. I had signed a star talent from abroad - and then didn't think about him for a while. The next year I get a message telling me he just pitched a shutout - for another team! Does anyone know what happened here? The transaction doesn't list any trade or release...

You didn't do any editing of this player at any point? You didn't put him on waivers?

Are you using the most recent patch? There was a problem, related to hidden players and recycled player ids, in the version before the latest patch, which led to players mysteriously jumping to another team, with no note in the transaction log. If you're on the most up-to-date version, then I have no idea...
