Mota used to be an OF, but, well, sucked.

Sorry gents. I was being a little sarcastic regarding my comment made we have a new CF. I read the article and fully understand that Mota is now a pitcher. I just threw out there that I'm not completely sure what Kenny Williams is doing. The trade doesn't effect the Sox at all. Maybe another stockpiling of minor leaguers to prepare that mid season acquisition of Sandy Alomar or Carl Everett???

Well, Aardsma was DFA'd, so it's a matter of getting something for him, which is more than the Sox would've gotten if they had just outright released him. Heck, one could argue that the Sox got as much for Aardsma alone as they did for both Mackowiak and Iguchi combined last year, and those guys are actually decent-to-good major league players.

Oh, the irony.

some other talkings abouts...
Kenny doesn't want to sign Scotty Pods to a minor league deal...feels scotty deserves to play in the majors every day
Juan Uribe will get a shot at 2b if he performs well in ST, but more than likely he's gonna stew like he does, hit below .220, strikeout twice per game and ride the pine until he's a free agent/traded
Brian Anderson wants a trade...but will get a shot at earning a spot in ST
Josh Fields will NOT see time in LF, even if crede's their opening day 3b. Ozzie said so.
Kenny is happy with Quentin & Owens going into this season (um if they're both going to play, where is Swisher going to play)
Dotel is healthy.

I'm curious if anyone here in chicago heard the espn-1000 interview with Josh Fields this morning. I had to get into work and couldnt sit in my car and listen to it.
Word is that Kenny had a talk with Crede yesterday. Im interested in hearing what Josh has to say.

Dunno, but knowing Kenny, the long-telegraphed Crede trade will wind up being Fields to the A's for Gio Gonzalez or something.

He can always wait to July and get Everett or Alomar Jr.

According to Impacto Deportivo (the same Dominican outlet that scooped the Alexei Ramirez signing), the Sox have reached a deal with Bartolo Colon.

That's right, people, ALL WILL BE FRUITS.

FWIW, The Sox are reporting a similar story, citing the same Impact Deportivo report.

The Sox are "neither confirming nor denying" the Colon deal.

The Official Site of The Chicago White Sox: News: White Sox mum on Colon contract talks

Also, the Trib is reporting that the Sox have signed Tomo Ohka to a minor-league deal.

I already like both of these more than Gavin Floyd, although I'd love it if Gavin Floyd blossomed and rendered both of these guys unnecessary.

So...it turns out that Impacto Deportivo was right about Colon coming to the Sox.

...well...the Red Sox, anyways.

WSCR is reporting that Chris Singleton will be leaving the Sox radio booth to take a job at ESPN(!) and will be replaced full-time by Steve Stone.

Singleton was a nice guy and all, but he wasn't all that good in the booth. Hopefully, Stoney will be able to keep a better muzzle on Farmer the same way John Rooney used to - I actually really enjoy Farmio when somebody is there to restrain him.

Wait, WSCR is reporting? That's the flagship. Wouldn't they know first? And who the hell at ESPN thought that was a good idea?

It was announced on the Mike North show this morning (which I wouldn't listen to with somebody else's ears), their website has a podcast of it up. So...uh...yeah, they did know first, since they broke the story.

Just because Singleton's not much of a PBP guy doesn't mean he'd make a bad TV guy. He's not going to be calling games for ESPN, he's going to be one of the guys on BBTN. He certainly seemed like an intelligent enough guy, he was just overmatched with the booth job, and probably overwhelmed with having to deal with Farmer.

I was on vacation for the last week and this was the best news I heard when I got back. This is going to be a great radio team and I will be able to flip on the games in the car again without cringing while listening to Singleton.

So, uh, apparently the Tomo Ohka era has begun!

The Official Site of The Chicago White Sox: News: Cooper expects more from young arms

Quote:
[Pitching Coach Don] Cooper rattled off Mark Buehrle, Javier Vazquez, John Danks, Matt Thornton, Tomo Ohka, Scott Linebrink, Octavio Dotel, Bobby Jenks and a handful of names who have a ticket to Chicago assured. They've done well.

"I'm OK with those guys," Cooper said.

Dang, didn't see this coming:

The Official Site of The Chicago White Sox: News: Report: Sox place Uribe on waivers

Yeah, that's right, Juan Uribe has been placed on irrevocable waivers.
