Anthony Barber
I've been using MidKnight's Fictional Universe in a Box fictional league. I started in 1900 and have simmed up till 2008. I started actually playing games in 2008, taking over the Detroit Bombers team.
I recently noticed a player on the Washington Wildcats major league roster, signed this season on 6-2-08, about 2 weeks before the ammy draft. I'm assuming they must have scouted the guy and discovered him. (See the first pic, Anthonybarber.jpg) Looks normal, right? However look at the 2nd pic. They have been playing this guy as a left fielder, and he's only rated 1 star with 1 star potential. Not surprising considering the guy appears to be a pitcher. However, look at his batting statistics this year. Insanity! (see pic 2, anthonybarber2.jpg) Has anyone ever seen anything like this happening? An 18 year old kid signed outside the ammy draft, playing in a position that is NOT his strength, and putting up numbers that could make him a contender for Rookie of the Year? I love how crazy this game can be sometimes...ANYTHING can happen. |

Another thing to make note of is that he has not had a single at bat or inning pitched in the minor leagues. He jumped into the majors immediately as an 18 year old.

Well, only 74 ABs in. Still might be a little early to call anything to be fair.
Did they somehow sign him before the draft, or did just nobody draft him.

I also imagine that 1 CONTACT is going to bite him eventually.
Or maybe he will be Andruw Jones and the league takes 10 years to figure out he actually can hit a fastball down the middle.

This really looks like a recyled player ID, He hasn't been re-scouted since you got him, this really could be a found player that you just haven't scouted, but the person who is doing your hiring scouted him highly. I'd quick scout him with your head scout and see how much the numbers change.

They signed him before the draft. The draft was on 6-15 and he was signed 6-2-08. I have feeder leagues for college and high school and he doesn't have stats for either of those leagues either.
I'll do the quick scout and see what's up. |

Zeke you were exactly right. He went up to 4 stars now and his batting abilities went through the roof and his pitching went down the tubes haha. I had no idea the game recycled player id's and stuff, I just thought I had found a really rare player lol.
I guess he is still a special player though as he's only 18 and has ratings like that. His power is almost fully developed as is his contact. However his eye is not developed yet. By the way the guy isn't on my team, he is on another team. I just happened to see his numbers when going through some of my players and seeing some of the top prospects. He is actually the #1 ranked prospect at this point. I just wonder if the team scouted the US and discovered him that way, or what happened. It's a bummer I missed out on him haha. They signed him to a 1 year contract worth 1.2 million dollars. |

Wow, that's a pretty darn talented player, especially at 18. Superstar-level contact and power already developed, potential for improvement in plate discipline; won't kill you on the basepaths; likely to be GG-caliber in OF within a couple years (assuming decent coaching). I'd sign that kid to a 15-year contract!
