FaceGen

I can't seem to get FaceGen to work for me on OOTP 2007... anybody got any ideas?

My Video Card is an Intek 82845/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller.

I have the latest patch sucessfully installed, and have tried a variety of the FaceGen set up options (i.e. all players/ML players only; create picture at start or on demand etc.).

All my players/coaches have the same picture - a blurred photo of a guy with a goatee beard and the OOTP logo in the bottom corner.

Where am I going wrong?

is there a button that says something to the effect of update faces now..., have you simed any days. What are those FaveGen options set to. from what it sounds like it hasn't created any facegen pics yet.

Assuming your "Intek" = "Intel", your video card shows up on the list of video cards that work with FaceGen, but only imperfectly:

Quote:
These Video Cards Work with FaceGen, but Imperfectly*
Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV
Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME
Intel 865G (Integrated Graphics)
Intel 82856G Graphics Controller

*These chipsets display the faces, but with small black "triangles of death"
That list has not been updated in almost a year, but it seems to be still true in your case.

The standard advice is to make sure that you have the latest driver installed for your video card. On my machine (Windows XP), I would do this as follows:
  • Start
  • Control Panel
  • System
  • Hardware
  • Device Manager
  • System Devices
  • Display Adapters
  • right-click on the video card and select Update Driver
That's my system. Yours may vary, of course. I doubt that is going to work, but it may be worth a try.

I am not speaking for OOTP, of course. You can try Tech Support to see if there is any further word on this problem.

Edit: Oops, sorry Zekes. Didn't see you coming. However, I think this is his problem, unfortunately.

Wasn't the small black "triangles of death" fixed in the third patch?

his problem isn't the small black "triangles of death" but that the faces haven't / won't been created.

For his sake, I hope you are right.

Edit: When he says this:
Quote:

he's talking about the default player photo (below). This is not FaceGen, however, so its appearance does not mean that FaceGen is working.

So, it may be that the black triangles of death problem was resolved, but his video card is still not working for OOTP/FaceGen.

However, Ads, zekester may have the right idea. Review the manual and make sure you have all settings correct. For example, there is a setting in there that OOTP will not update photos until January 1, I believe, rather than Always If Needed. So, the game may not be creating new photos to replace the default one when you call up player profiles.

I just set up a new game to try and test this some more - but unsuccessfully!

My settings on start up were:

- All players

- All coaches/scouts etc.

- Upon Creation

- Always if needed

- Normal

I end up with that blurred photo again that 1998 Yankees referred to.

Going to preferences says that Facegen is enabled.

I have now found the player pictures options section under both the league and game set up sections. Trying to manually update pictures does nothing, and in the game set up part, I am told "Fictional Picture Options disabled - Facegen not initialised".

So, it is "enabled" but not "initialised" apparently... the plot thickens...

Mystery solved, I hope. That situation stirred up the old memory bank; I remember people talking about it as an indication that there is a video card problem when the game tells you in preferences that FaceGen is enabled but says it's disabled in game setup. There is hope, however, because there may be a workaround if you read through these threads from Tech Support:

Good luck.

Thanks very much, Yankees, and mystery very much solved.

Problem solved by putting it into Troubleshooting 2 mode, and its now up and running.

Cheers for your help!

Well, that is the best news that I have had all day (today has not been one of my better ones, unfortunately). That's great. Enjoy the game.

You know, I've been trying to figure out who that "blurry goatee" default pic reminds me of for a while now.

Does that look to anyone else kind of like Fernando Vina? His beard was a little more neatly trimmed, but I think the facial features are about right.

It looks kind of like Mike Alstott. Too bad he didn't play baseball.

Yeah, I can see that. Still not exactly right, though. I know this is going to bug me now that I've brought it up. And I'm sure it's not actually a photo of anyone I'd recognize.
