Strange Scouting Reports
I've been noticing that some players seem to have scouting reports despite the fact there's no way they've ever been scouted before. For instance, the draft pool was just released, yet some players already have full ratings from my scouts dating back to seven years ago (player would have been 12). I've also had a scout that automatically had a report for every player, but it was always from the same date a few years back, and was always very wrong. Has anyone else had these issues?
This game was created from scratch. Running: 8.0.0.13 on Mac OS X 10.4.11 |

Do you have it set to delete players who never reach the majors? I believe the game reuses those player id numbers, which then means that if your scout scouted the player that was deleted, when his player id is used again it shows the scouting for the old deleted player. Haven't tested that or put much thought into it, but was always my best guess.
The second part, I believe your head scout (whoever it was when you first took over the team) scouts every player there is anywhere... then of course the report is near useless unless he keeps up with it. So if you took over the team 7 years ago and it scouted some poor schmuck in Japan (or the winter league, or A ball or whatever), and you never ended up scouting him again somehow... if the player moves over to MLB this season your scout is giving you the 7 year old information he has on him.

For the scout, he wasn't and had never been a head scout, actually. But like the other scouts guys, he would have scouting reports for players he couldn't have seen - aka Draft Pool.

tysok's explanation is definitely correct- if you delete retired players who don't make the majors, the player ids get used again, but the game does *not* erase the scouting reports attached to that player id. When the id gets recycled (assigned to a newly created player), e.g. in the amateur draft, he might still have old scouting reports that really belonged to a completely different, now-retired player. Don't trust those reports!
If you switch off the 'delete retired players' option, you won't see this problem, but really the issues with id recycling should be fixed. There were serious issues with international scouting and id recycling that have been corrected in the latest patch, but there are still lingering issues like this one. |
