Mac vs PC -does it matter?
Hi everyone,
Apologies in advance if I've asked a tired question, but I was wondering how the Mac and PC versions stack up. Situation: I have an Intel Mac running BootCamp, so while I'd rather not have to boot into Windows, it's possible. Are the any clear advantages to the PC version (fewer bugs, better mod support, etc) or has OOTP done the unthinkable and actually created a Mac port that is on par with the PC version? Thanks |

I don't have the mac version, but have read here that they are identical. I would be curious how facegen works when running windows under vmware/parallels . . .

ootpb 2007 works great on my Macbook. Only things to be aware of are, the scrollwheel on the mouse is not implimented in the Mac version (something technical that couldn't be fixed until it's hopefully written in for vers. 9) And secondly, apparently for ootpb 8 mac, you must be connected to the internet to verify whenever you launch the game. (I didn't buy 8 for this reason, and will probably not buy 9 if this isn't resolved by then) but this might not be an issue for you.
hope this helps |

I too have a MacBook Pro, and haven't bought OOTP8. Why would you need to verify an internet connection? That makes no sense to me.

The internet connection thing will be a big deal for me as I intend to purchase OOTP9 on Mac.

Andreas said this would in all likelihood not be a requirement. There's a thread on it around here somewhere.
That's good, 'cause I'd agree with you guys. I'm a PC-user who is getting pretty sick of Microsoft and thinking strongly about making my next computer purchase from Apple. |

I am also wondering about this, because I have both a Mac and a PC. Judging by the frequency that the Mac version is referenced in the technical support forums, it seems like the Mac version is somewhat unstable. Is that conclusion unjustified?

What do you mean by unstable?

I've found 2007 to be extremely stable on my mac. As in I can only recall one crash in the past year.
-CBBL I realize that there are about a million divisive opinions on the Mac vs PC debate, so I will just say- I switched about a year and a half ago and have been very very pleased |

Yea, I would think the lack of talk is a positive.
If people aren't saying anything about the Mac version, and we know people have the Mac version, then they probably aren't experiencing problems. Most of the threads here are about problems or questions. You get some praise and happiness. Not upset over it. That's just the nature of message boards. |

Mac version of OOTP
I haven't upgraded to OOTP 8 yet, but I've been running OOTP 2007 on my Intel iMac for several months, (on Mac OS X) both for solo games and in an on-line league. Zero problems so far. In fact, I just started "commishing" for the on-line league, and so far so good.

I own both.
Go with the PC version until they make it universal binary for OOTP 9. The PC version is at least 5x faster. I run a 1.8GHz MacBook Pro w/ 2GB RAM and a home built PC with an AMD64 3200+ with 1GB RAM. |
