That would have been a wild fight.

And lets be clear...I long ago on this forum picked PBF over Hatton (and that was at 140). Nevertheless, it was PBF who chose not to face Hatton at 140...and fight him at his less than effective weight of 147. That is just the bottom line.

I believe Hatton stood a better chance at 140 than at 147. That doesn't change the fact that more often than not I still see PBF winning the fight.....but on those occassions where Hatton could score the upset....it was much more likely to happen at 140...not 147....and I think it is clear Team PBF understood this too....
I agree Hatton stood a better chance at 140 but it doesn't change the fact that PBF has more skill and would probably beat him more often than not.

The only way Floyd loses a fight to Hatton is if it take places somewhere in the UK......where a favorable referee will let Ricky get away with murder.

Not at all. Just saying that when Hatton fought in the UK, he got a lot of preferential treatment from the refs and at times it was blatantly obvious.

From what Im hearing

From what I was hearing the diffrence between this fight and the other one is it suppose to be a packed undercard, which might include winky wright, and berra, IF JMM wins, then Berra will take david diaz but its so far away these are just ideas to apeal to the fans since the first fight was a certified stinker (dont care if you love boxing or not)

And check this out

The number one guy to fight Oscar in may is ......Paulie Malginagi at 150..
Steve Forbes has been mentioned but they want someone who style is more moving to prepare Oscar for Mayweather.

I love Paulie I just think if he takes this fight he will never be the same, or he could out box oscar and they will still do mayweather oscar 2 lmao. Judah anyonE?

And this hatton argument is just crazy, the guys is a popular fighter
Got heart, but no one who stands in front of mayweather and come forward without moving there head, stand no chance against him and another thing, mayweather body work was excellent!

Hatton cant beat Mayweather period!

malignaggi has a fair chance to beat De La Hoya, he could grow old in front of our eyes. I'd only make De La Hoya 70-30 favourite..

I agree ... Paulie has a decent shot at beating ODLH ... Oscar wants a sure win, he's better off with Forbes.

But after seeing the judges almost give the PBF fight to ODLH, Paulie may need to win 11 rounds to get the SD.

No one south of 160 lbs. beats Mayweather; period. The rematch will DeLaHoya is completely pointless. Not gonna buy the PPV. Floyd vs Cotto is somewhat competitive, as well as entertaining, but PBF wins a clear UD.

In my opinion, if he wants to follow in the footsteps of the true PFP champ, (Sugar Ray Robinson, who started his career at 135, cleaned out the lower divisions, eventually won the middleweight crown and fought for the world light-heavyweight title before it was all said and done), he will step out of his comfort zone and fight someone who actually has a CHANCE of beating him.

That's what an all-time great does. And PBF has the potential to be remembered as such. The only thing that will prohibit his joining the immortals of our beloved sport is his continuing to stay in his comfort zone and take "safe" fights.

For Paulie to beat Oscar he'll need to look a lot better than he did in his defense earlier this month. Granted, Oscar has slowed a step or 2 but was that all due to age or in part due to fighting a great fighter like Floyd?

I'm not saying Malignaggi is anything special, but i mean Oscar is 34 (not that old). He has fought many hard fights. He won't be very motivated in a such tune-up bout. He has lost 3 of his last 5. Oscar should ofcourse win, and would be the favourite to, but it is not an easy fight for Oscar.

I agree that PBF is just taking fights in his comfort zone. But he doesn't care about being considered an all-time great. He is in it for the money and the thing I will give him credit for is that he doesnt hide that fact. He will continue to take the best fight for him that has the potential to make the most money with as little risk of defeat or physical abuse as possible. He is definitely a smart businessman. Risk versus reward. And why not, if people are willing to continue to watch and pay for it. I would love to see him take a fight with Cotto, and even though he may win, why take the chance at taking all those body shots.

I hate Mayweather as much as I've hated any boxer.

That said, no one out there can beat him right now, and that especially includes De La Hoya. I was hyped for their last fight, but I don't think I'll even buy this one unless the televised portion of the undercard is stellar.

Funny how many people (talking in general not excusively this board) thought Hatton would beat him (same with Oscar) and now that he KO'd Hatton it's back to PBF doesn't fight anyone and only takes safe fights.

I didn't think Hatton would beat him. I only hoped that the puncher's chance thing worked out, and it clearly didn't because I forgot one little part: The puncher has to actually be able to connect to utilize the puncher's chance.

It's a shame that many of todays' top athletes have this kind of attitude; but you're exactly right. Used to be that making history took precedence over making money. Chances are we'll never see another Sugar Ray Robinson, who began his career as a lightweight, and kept moving up in class and winning titles until being physically stopped from doing so. Mr. Robinson had the guts to climb into the ring against the 175 world champion, when he himself tipped the scales at a meager 157. Had he gotten past Maxim, (which he almost did), there is little doubt in my mind that he would have challenged Joe Walcott or Rocky Marciano for the heavyweight crown. That's courage, and the stuff that legends are made of.

Personally, I'm not interested in seeing Floyd fight any more guys that have virtually no chance of beating him; that includes Miguel Cotto, who, on his BEST day, loses a 7-5 UD to PBF. Maybe when boxing fans stop plopping down their $50-$60 for his PPVs, Mr. Mayweather will get the message. Again, just my 2 cents.

Oh, I know you didn't, I saw that you still had Oscar winning @ 70%. I'm sure they'd fight @ 147 so Paulie would also have to come up 7 pounds & he doesn't even have the pop in his punches that Floyd has.

I'm really not wanting to get in this whole absurd argument again. Comparing what PBF is doing now to what guys did back in the 40's is absurd. Times have changed athletes are different animals now.

Pick a sport ... not many are going to risk their $$$ for a win. LT has a bump on his knee and doesn't play in the AFC Championship ... It is different times.

If you want to make the comparison then make it ... you put PBF back in the 40's and 50's where each fight feeds his family for a month then he fights more. Also put him with 8 or 9 weight classes and maybe he steps up higher. Take Sugar Ray Robinson in today's era do you really think he has 200 fights? No he fights 2 to 3 times a year and hand picks who he fights.

Dumb comparison ... it just doesn't work. You make all things equal and Ray going from 135 to 160 isn't really all that different than Floyd going from 130 to 154. Not to mention Ray had the height and build to gain more weight.

When PBF was allowed to go up to 154 he could only manage 150 ... what would make you think he can go up to 160? The comparison doesn't work.

Edit: not to mention we saw what that dramatic of a weight gain took out of a world class fighter in Roy Jones.

My point is that SRR had the intestinal fortitude to step up and fight someone that might actually have a chance of beating him. Think he would probably do the same if he were fighting today.

Concerning PBF, just saying that it's pointless IMO to shell out good money to watch Floyd fight another uncompetitive fight. While not a fan, I've given him his props as an immense talent, and potential all-time great. If there are those that want to shell out their hard earned funds to watch him school yet another overmatched opponent, then more power to them (and him).

I'll keep the cash, because no one under 160 lbs. is going to beat Mayweather, as the only challenge for PBF at this point is in the higher weight classes. If he doesn't want to take the leap, then that's his prerogative. I actually think that he might do better than most people think.

Heck, even "safety man" RJJ, who started his boxing life as a small MW, stepped up to win a HW title later in his career. Should have retired after that, because after you've been a heavyweight titlist, what's the point in stepping back down to a smaller weight class? Kind of anti-climactic IMO.
