Actually I think that it is as much or more than they expected out of him. He only had 9 minor league homers. And to be fair, he has played in 415 games, which about 2.5 season of ABs.

So I heard on XM's MLB channel that Minnesota has a 4/80 extension offer out to Johan.
Truth?

He'll always be a Twin to us Twins fan so I thought I would post this article about Koskie and his concussion struggles.

I hate that deal for the Twins they got for Santana. New York offered the best possible player in Hughes and Boston offered the best package, how did they choose the Mets package? They didn't even offer their best prospect. Huge win for the Mets.
Do you think that after this trade, the Haren trade, and the Bedard trade that teams are going to start trading their top pitchers way before free agency in order to get more back. It seems that the Santana return was so little because Santana had only a year left before hitting FA while Bedard and Haren have 2+ years, meaning more cost control for the teams getting them. It's an interesting thing to look at. It seems that more teams are getting onto this bandwagon for cost controlled talent and are willing to pay a lot for them. (Including the Miguel Cabrera trade as well). There have been a lot of huge packages given up for premier talent this offseason and I'm surprised that the best trade chip (Santana) probably got the least in return for him. |

Since I am a Yankees fan first and a Twins fan second, I had mixed reactions when I heard they went for the Mets offer. The Yankees had what I thought was the best offer on the table with Hughes leading the show. Unfortunately for the Twins, it doesn't appear that Hughes was on the table for very long:

Still, even with the rumored Sox and Yankees deals on the table, none of them compared to the overall haul that Oakland got for Haren and there's no way you can tell me that Haren is better than Santana. It just seems that Oakland made a great trade by giving up three cost controlled years of all-star pitching and getting back a plethora of prospects. After seeing the uninspiring haul that the Twins got for arguably the best pitcher in baseball, it almost seems like teams will move away from waiting until the last year to trade their upper echelon stars.
It's just an interesting aspect to the way the market is going these days. It seems that everywhere we look the market is changing. Players are signing more long term contracts to lock up their arb/FA years, less top tier FA's on the market, more money in teams hands, and now players are starting to get traded before their last year of arbitration. The way the market works is very different from even 5 years ago. |

I am skeptical of the validity of either of the rumored deals. I'm not saying they weren't real but there is doubt cast upon them that wasn't there when we first heard of them.

I'm sorry, but Carlos Gomez will never be what's been pitched. He's a DUMB player who lacks discipline. The idea he'll become Carlos Beltran will never happen. The Twins' best hope for this deal is that Guerra becomes a rotation topper (possible) and that Humber and Mulvey reach their peaks (No. 3s, I think).
