Markus..please tweak the Milestone Watch
Does anyone else agree that it would make sense to have the Milestone Watch page sorted differently. As it stands now, each milestone category (Hits, HR's, etc) is sorted alphabetically by player name.
For example: HR milestones Name Age Team Milestone Current Missing Player A 36 Boston 400 HR's 373 HR's 27 HR's Player B 32 Boston 200 HR's 179 HR's 21 HR's Player C 34 Chicago 300 HR's 298 HR's 2 HR's Player D 38 Houston 400 HR's 385 HR's 15 HR's and so on. I think it should first be sorted by the actual milestone, then within each milestone, sorted alphabetically. It's much easier to read that way, and more intuitive. It gets really tough to read when there are 50+ players on the list. HR milestones Name Age Team Milestone Current Missing Player A 36 Boston 400 HR's 373 HR's 27 HR's Player D 38 Houston 400 HR's 385 HR's 15 HR's Player C 34 Chicago 300 HR's 298 HR's 2 HR's Player B 32 Boston 200 HR's 179 HR's 21 HR's This shouldn't be too difficult to fix. Please do! |

I haven't looked at this yet, but I agree with your recommendation.

That sounds good to me too. I love the new Milestone Watch, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed to have a player surpass the milestone without a notice. I was hoping for a news story, a message, or at least an entry in the players history.

I would say the secondary sort should be how close how close they are to the record in ascending order as well.

I think the Milestone section should allow you to sort each section the way you want.

I agree with andymac, and also with mars001 that it would be nice to have a news item triggered when a milestone is passed. Great feature, though!

There's also a bit of a problem with listing players within 100 home runs of a milestone when the screen says only those within 30 should be shown. It seems, by the way, that the intent was to make the cutoff a good season's worth of the statistic. This day and age, I would make the home runs watch within 50 homers, not 30.

Dola,
Maybe the milestone K's needs to be tweaked too. Should not Smoltz be appearing on this list, as he needs only 182 strikeouts for 3,000? Only these two appear right now. Or, is all of this a function of the MLB roster set included in the game, which is all that I have been looking at so far with the Milestone Watch? Is it functioning correctly in other games? The game needs to have more of an awareness of its own history. When an all-time record is broken, it should be noted. It would even be nice to see things like homerun chases being documented (although I understand that this would be quite difficult to do). But this is for another thread, I guess.

I have a feeling that this thread will shortly either go to next page or sink down into the depths without resolution of the basic question of whether the Milestone Watch is even working properly. If so, given the other problems I am seeing with OOTP 8, I might revert back to OOTP 2007 and hunker down for a year or so. (Not that I'm impatient . . . no . . . I should sign off because I'm getting unusually cranky with OOTP for some reason . . . I think I need a timeout . . .
)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought it was a little weird to see players who are 80 HRs away on the milestone watch list. would also like to be able to click on a column and sort that way.
Def agree that primary sort should't be Name. should def be the milestone first.

I think implementing Targy's suggestion would be great. In the absence of that, it definitely needs to be ordered more intuitively.

It should be implemented properly. It's a little sloppy right now.

I guess the real question is...what are the odds of it getting fixed? I've had a lot of faith in Markus and the crew over the years, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Which is why I plunked down the few bucks for OOTP8, to support the team. I just don't see how this gets out of beta without someone saying "Hey, maybe we could do this better?" Sigh...it's why i really wanted to be on the beta team, because it's little things like this that separate a really good game from a great game.
I just hope OOTP isn't going the way of an EA Sports game, where you'll see new features added but not done right. Then the next year that feature is fixed. The next year the feature is removed and/or changed completely. And after a few more years it's brought back, and the cycle continues. |

This incremental patch thing with full installs needed every time is a pain, but it sure is nice getting all of our issues addressed.
