Many players being renamed Smith
I did a search, but found nothing except for this thread which wasn't any help. Anyway, I am using the newest patch with bp's Fictional MLB template. I didn't have a crash or anything. I played the game last night and exited as normal. Just now, however, I go to play out a game, and 10 out of the 25 players on my active roster have had their last names changed to Smith. Other teams are like this as well. I reimported the name database, but that changed nothing. I would hate to start over, as I have played out every game and am now on June 6. I know I should have backed up, but I didn't (will from now on). Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. Thanks.

I actually have had this happen before -- as a result of reimporting the database. That was in a previous version and was supposedly fixed. Strange if this started happening in the middle of a league that has been going okay without you doing anything. Something must be corrupt. I think the game renames people to "Smith" as a default when it doesn't no what to do.

dola,
Actually, in my case, everyone was being named Joe Nobody. But I bet this has some similar root problem.

I did actually reimport the database at the beginning of the season because I had used bp's league before and this gave me different names. Like I said, though, I am now at the beginning of June and this is the first problem I have had.

I have this issue with blank nicknames files. It seems like it still tries to give random people nicknames, but since it doesn't have anything to pull from, instead of not giving them a nickname, it names them "Smith."

This TT was marked as something that cannot be reproduced. Have you seen this behavior in another league?

I just had this happen to me, but both first and last names have been changed to Smith.
Playing a historical league starting in 1901. I just finished the 1917 season earlier tonight and the game automatically imported the draft class as normal. I run the draft and sim until February-whatever when the game switches to the next season statistically, then exit the game. Come back a few hours later, start the game up, sim until Spring Training and start looking at my roster. All of a sudden guys are named Smith (it may have happened when the year switched, or even after the draft before then, but I wasn't paying attention). Chief Bender became Smith Bender. Smokey Joe Wood became Smith Wood. Nemo Leibold became Nemo Smith, so on and so forth. It just completely killed a league I had put a lot of time into. I rarely take a league past 10 years and this one was going strong.
