Because he had an 84 yard run skewing his stats.

I didn't see the play but I can guarantee that Patrick Willis was blowing up somebody somewhere on the field. He probably took out the entire offensive line but his incompetent teammates couldn't tackle Taylor.

Good to know Willis tackling him on 4 of his 14 rushing attempts is shutting him down.

We will almost for sure loose Mewelde so I hope he returns next year.
I think he's back next year as long as he wants to be back. He's getting paid a lot, but the Vikings have the cap room and it's obvious that they realize the luxury of having 2 very good RBs. He may feel the need to try to pressure the Vikings into trading him somewhere so that he can be the full-time back, but if not I'm sure the Vikings would be quite pleased to come back next year with AD-Taylor as a 1-2 combo.

As for the Niners, Willis did indeed look very good. The offense, on the other hand, was absolutely pathetic. I mean, I knew Trent Dilfer was bad, but he was absolutely atrocious out there. What a terrible, terrible offense.

Other than the 84 yard carry, Taylor had 7 carries for 17 yards. I mean, I have no complaints about his game obviously, but you do have to get the 49ers some credit... they did almost nothing right, but they were very effective in shutting down the run.

On the other 10, Peterson was too scared to run Willis' way.

I'm surely not trying to argue that Holcomb is the Vikings answer at QB, just that he's their best option this year if the team wants to win 9 games and have a chance of making the playoffs.
bump

Not that causation necessarily equals correlation, but I just want to point out the Vikings are 7-2 in games started by Tarvaris Jackson this year.

You know, as much as it sucks to lose a top 3 pick, Joe Staley is going to pretty much lock down an entire side of the offensive line for the next decade or so.

Yeah, it really sucks to show that the Vikings can win beyond Adrian Peterson's ability to run for 200 yds.

Do you also want to point out that I was the ONLY one in this thread that thought this was a playoff team as long as their QB didn't act like a turnover machine?

Jackson has stopped throwing 2-3 picks per game and the young receivers have improved. That being said, it's clearly the running game and defense that is carrying this team.

Nobody will want to play them in the playoffs if they get in.

They're in right now! I love it.

They get the Bears next week and the Redskins the following week.

If the Vikings beat the Bears this weekend they will have a very high percentage shot at making the playoffs. The Saints and Cardinals play next week so one of those teams will be out. That leaves the Redskins, Saints/Cards and the Lions pretty much.

The Lions have absolutely fallen apart and pretty much ended their season by blowing it against the Cowboys. Bwahahaha, by the way.

If the Vikings go 2-1 the rest of the way, they're in. I didn't see a scenario which they couldn't be in unless Washington goes 3-0 vs the Giants, Vikings AND Cowboys. GOOD LUCK.

I'm LOVING this season when just over a month ago I wanted to take a nice draft pick and move on from the season. Now we could be picking in the 20's and locking a spot up in the playoffs by next week. WOW! Who'da thunk it!?

If the Vikings and Redskins both win or both lose this weekend, then if the Redskins beat the Vikings, they'll have identical records and Washington would own the tiebreaker.

Right, thats what I basically said in a long winded way. If the Vikings go 2-1, the Redskins have to go 3-0 to get the tiebreaker. If there was another team at 9-7 with the Redskins and Vikings, the Vikings would get the tiebreaker over everyone due to the best conference record.

It's actually been a little amazing. I mean, Jackson has looked fantastic. And I know he hasn't been asked to do a whole lot, but it's just been a complete 180. No more terrible decisions throwing into lots of coverage, no more taking of a lot of sacks because he's standing in the pocket too long, actually getting the ball downfield to receivers... it's been quite a sight. As is rather obvious from this thread I've been a Jackson supporter (even when almost every other Vikings fan wasn't!), but quite honestly I did not foresee him playing so well for the last 4 weeks. Let's just hope he keeps it up!
