Anyone really surprised by Yi so far?

I didn't think he would be a total stiff or anything but I thought he would need some time like Yao did.

One of the top 3 rookies to this point IMO.

Nice to see Memphis is starting to free Mike Conley.

In his first 2 games getting double digit minutes:
17 min 8 pts 4 ast 1 to
23 min 10 pts 9 ast 2 to

He should be starting.

Yep, I was wondering why he wasn't playing. Did he have a nagging injury or something?

I really think he's the safest of the OSU 1st rounders as far as being 100% sure that barring injury he will have a solid to great pro career.

Obviously, Oden has the most upside but Conley just screams All-star PG to me. Amazing handle, quickness, and court vision and he's just a winner.

His shot also improved as the season went on at OSU and I think he's going to turn himself into a very solid shooter.

He's not hurt.

From Nov 2:
Quote:
Rookie Mike Conley continues to make strides in practice. Still, there seems to be no immediate plans to work Conley into the rotation barring injury or foul trouble with starting point guard Damon Stoudamire and backup Kyle Lowry.

“I just don’t like playing three points guards,” Iavaroni said.
He only played so much last night because they were getting killed.

And to think there was a time I wanted Sam Mitchell fired and replaced with Iavaroni.

LOL, he doesn't want to play 3 PG's so then why in the hell would you draft one in each of the last 2 1st rounds??

It was clearly a value pick for Memphis this year but when the pick was made I didn't understand what they expected to do at that position.

As both a huge Villanova and Ohio State fan, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Conley will be a much better NBA PG than Kyle Lowry.

I loved Lowry ever since High School when he completely owned Sebastian Telfair but he will never be an all-star.

As I'm sure you know, Iavaroni just became their coach last year.

If Conley plays well consistently when he does get out there, he'll eventually at least replace Lowry as the backup. Iavaroni isn't an idiot. If I were them, I'd go with Stoudemire/Conley, but even though Conley will be and maybe already is a better player, I don't start him at least for a while because having a veteran PG with a young team like that is a very smart thing to do.

To suggest that he should be starting based on two games, or that you can guarantee with no doubt that he's a 'safer' bet to be a good pro than Oden based on same, is in my opinion totally ridiculous. Yes I think he'll be good. It's also way too early to make blanket judgements like this.

Who said anything about basing it off of 2 games? How about basing it off of the nearly 40 that I watched last year?

Conley is already very skilled in the areas that he needs to be a great NBA PG. Oden has work to do on a lot of things to be a great center. I'll stand by my statement, Oden has a chance to be an all-time great but Conley is a safer pick to at least be a very good pro where as Oden does have a bit a of a bust factor, no matter how small it may be.

That in no way, shape, or form means that I think Conley will be a better pro or that I think Oden shouldn't have been the #1 pick. I think Oden will improve in the areas that he needs to improve because he's a tireless worker with a great attitude.

Oh, and I NEVER "guaranteed with no doubt" that Conley is a safer bet as a pro, I guaranteed that he will be a better PG than Lowry. I've seen more than enough of both over the last few years to have that opinion.

I think they need to get rid of Stoudamire and go with Conley and Lowry splitting minutes. Stoudamire turns the ball over too much and while the team is young, I've never really gotten the impression that leadership was one of his strong suits.

They're terrible anyway, why not just let Conley get the on-court experience.

I should send something similar to Billy King as to why he keeps trotting out that fool Willie Green over 1st round pick Thad Young. Nothing wrong with going big with Miller, Iggy, and Young.

I think history speaks volumes on the value(or lack thereof) in saying because a player was a successful college player that makes them a good pro. See Kevin Durant's jump shot. Durant and Conley will probably both be excellent NBA players. I wouldn't bet against either of them. I also wouldn't assume either of them to be 'safe' All-Star caliber players at this point, because we just don't know how well they'll adjust to the NBA, both on and off the court.

Oden has put on too much weight: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3115030

And it's muscle, not fat. Added 30 pounds of muscle. Blazers are worried it's too much for his knee to handle right now. Oden that much stronger is a scary concept, but if it limits his agility that kind of makes it pointless. Especially when you consider his agility is likely to be limited for at least the first season he's back.

In the "too ridiculous for me to make up" category, the Sixers vaunted frontcourt has allowed Andray Blatche to get off on them for 24 points in 22 minutes. Still 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Between Al Jefferson and Kevin Durant, no.

I'm not an NBA schedule expert, so since they realigned a few years ago I'm not really sure how many times teams play in their own division and all of that but I think the fact that 3 god awful teams like Portland, Seattle, and Minnesota reside in the same division will make it hard for one of them to lose that many games.

Durant needs to get that shooting % over 40% though, come on son.

Divisions don't mean that much: they won't play enough times for it to make a huge difference, and being that Portland is significantly less godawful than Seattle and Minnesota, I'd say it's between those two. Flip a coin, really, but my money's on Seattle.

Durant's going to continue to struggle until he develops himself physically and/or the others on the team develop more. A couple years down the road though this will all be a memory -- such is the nature of all but the most complete of young players. He'll win rookie of the year in a walk despite not deserving it(Al Horford is the clear choice so far).

It's confusing to me how GMs jump jobs so easily in the NBA.

The Nets just lost their GM and it's not even that big of a deal to Rod Thorn. He's talking about a list of potential replacements.

The same happened with Colangelo leaving Phoenix to GM in Toronto. It seemed sudden.

It's unheard of for a GM to jump from one NFL team to the other during a season. The same can be said of baseball. They usually wait till after the season to make such moves and if a move is even considered then teams are looking for compensation (ie: Beane going to Boston a few years back).

There should be, my god this was at least 5 years overdue. Unreal how this idiot kept his job for so long.

Can't wait to see what Bill Simmons has to say about this. His remarks about King are always priceless.
