I do have to agree with KW here. A-Rod is going to get a hefty price tag and even as good as he is, he can't carry a team alone. The amount of his contract would kill money that needs to be spent elsewhere.

Yep.

Oh, and here's some excellent news: The Sox have declined the options on Mike Myers and Darin Erstad.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...tnered=rss_cws

While Erstad wasn't all bad - he would have been fine as a reserve OF/1B in the same way that Ross Gload was, Ozzie misused him by starting him too much, expecting him to somehow magically stay healthy. Anybody who didn't see 3 DL stints coming needs to hook me up with their supplier, y'know?

Myers, however, was completely worthless. Sure, it's not like he sunk the ship, as he came on board when it was already capsized, but he was just brutal. Yech. Blah. Go away. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Brian Anderson is doing everything he can to get away from Ozzie Guillen:

Quote:
"If the White Sox are really worried about me getting at-bats, well, I sat on [the bench] and had 17 at-bats for the whole first month [last season]," said Anderson of a possible winter playing stint in Mexico during an interview with MLB.com. "Apparently, at-bats weren't that important.

"I haven't really thought about that. I'm not sure what's going on because nobody [from the White Sox] has contacted me about what's going on.

"I'm not a 6-year-old. It would be nice to talk to someone and find out why I'm going there and as to how it will benefit me, instead of someone saying, 'You are going down there,'" Anderson added. "If someone wants to come and tell me something, I can handle it. If I can handle hitting .225 in the big leagues, I can handle getting news that's not too great about me."
It's sad, really, both how Anderson is being treated by the Sox and how he's over-inflating his own value. This is just going to be a mess that won't go away until Anderson is dealt. Knowing the way Ozzie is, and using the Magglio Ordoñez debacle as a reference, it won't end then, either.

Ugly, ugly, ugly.

Oh, and some dude that writes for the Mankato Free Press thinks the Sox are front-runners for Toriiiiiiiiiiii Hunter.

Per ESPN radio, the Sox have picked up Juan Uribe's option.

edit: Correction, they declined his option and then signed him to a 1-year deal for $4.5 million, which means they saved themselves a cool half million! KUTGW!

Rumors are also flying about the Sox offering Torii Hunter a 5/$75 deal, although they can't officially talk to him - or any other potential FA - until the 13th(?).

According to the radio it sounds like the Sox have a meeting with Hunter on Sunday. Maybe they just can't sign anyone until the 13th.

Yep. Hunter was on ESPN1000 being interviewed by Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman yesterday (or the day before):

...

Being able to practice his own particular brand of thievery in center ranks high on the list for Hunter, and he gave high marks to the White Sox fence in center. In fact, Hunter would turn down a good fit, team-wise and money-wise, if he doesn't feel the field is conducive to helping his new team defensively.

"That's 100 percent accurate," Hunter said. "Listen to those words and that will tell you where I might be ending up. I have to visit fields where I've never played and see if the grass runs true. I love defense so much that if the field is not right, I'm not taking it."

Oh, and I'm glad I'll never have to worry about this rumor coming true.

Looking passed the fact that there is no viable option inside the organization right now for centerfield, would you welcome Hunter to our team?

I wouldn't mind seeing him out there in centerfield. He is getting up there in years but he should have a few good years left in him...especially with him getting off the hard surface of the Metrodome.

I am drooling at the prospect of Hunter in Centerfield He is one of those guys that I have always hated because he was on the Twins, but I will love him instantly if he joins the Sox. Right and Center will be solid with him and JD. I hope this actually happens.

After watching Charlie Haeger pitch, you guys need to pick up Mirabelli.

To be honest, if the money was the same, I'd probably rather have Aaron Rowand back, since he's a similar type of ballplayer (although with a bit less power) and a couple years younger. Nothing like paying $15 million to a 37-year-old outfielder!

If Charlie Haeger sees enough time in the majors to warrant signing a catcher that can handle him, then 2008 won't be worth salvaging.

I'd like to get Hunter and I understand the reason for not getting A-Rod.

And honestly, as much as I hate Joe Crede, Damon for Crede would just blow as a trade.

Anderson I always thought was overrated, so if he never comes back to the team, I'm fine with it.

If the Sox do sign Hunter, I hope it's for only three years. When I see Johnny Damon today, I think of Tori Hunter tomorrow. Seems like Damon is degrading daily and I am wondering if Hunter has "peaked". I guess I shouldn't worry because KW doesn't like to go beyond three year contracts. And,even with his past season, I still think Galvin Floyd can win 12-15 games in 2009.And, of course, I am talking Major League games.

Well, the difference is that Damon was never an elite defensive outfielder, although he's a better natural hitter than Hunter.

All the Hunter talk is revolving around a 5-year deal. Honestly, if the Sox want to be players in the free agent market, they're going to have to get over their 3-year-contract hangup. One can say that with Paulie's 5-year deal and Buehrle's 4-year deal, that may be changing already.

Amen to that I'm so tired of these White Sox can't miss prospects that tear up AAA and blow at the ML level. Plus, Anderson has always looked completely lost at the plate. However, I could have made the same statements about Crede 4 years ago and look what happened to him. I'd rather the Sox go for a proven CF then keep waiting on a prospect that will probably never blossom. At least not with the Sox.

So, apparently, the Sox are considered a not-unlikely destination for Miguel Cabrera, with an eye on playing him in left field.

Personally, I don't see this happening, and I don't think I want to see this happening, as that seems like way too high of a price for a guy who will probably bolt for the FA market when he will be able to in a couple years.

Well, one of the things that the teams are asking for is the rights to negotiate with Cabrera before the deal is finalized so they can sign him to an extension first, which is a smart move. However, Kenny being Kenny, he probably won't care about an extension and will take the draft picks in two years.
