Scouting for Trades - Different Reports
The first time you look at another team's players via the Trade screen, you will get your scout's ratings on those players. If you open a player to see more detail, you still get your scout's view of that player.
Once you exit that player screen, however, all subsequent views of that player (from the team listing, or on the individual screen) will be from the other team's scouting department. This will continue for each player that you open up. Of course, if you leave the trade window for that team, this condition resets. This is easily reproduced by opening a player in the trade window, closing, and just opening that same player again. You'll see a different set of ratings displayed. Leave the trading area, and open the other team's roster and you'll see how these ratings align with their scout's view. Running on version 5.01 This was a bug back in OOTP4, that apparently was never resolved.

There's another problem with the Trade screen. If you select a team, and then scroll the player list using the slider on the right, subsequent clicks of player names do not function correctly. Its almost as if the mouse-over position is completely lost. You can right click a player, and nothing will happen. But then left click, and someone completely different will appear. Very strange.
Note that if you scroll the window using the mouse scroll wheel, these problems don't occur. Its just that slider.

The differing scouting reports issue was the most confusing thing to me about OOTP4 and is still the most confusing thing in OOTP5. I mentioned this in another thread about how scouting ratings differ in the Search Window vs. the Trade Screen, and Steve Kuffrey replied that he believed the results generated in the Search Window were the ratings given by a generic "average" scout, rather than the ratings of the Scouting Director of that player's team. This is borne out by the fact that my own players have different ratings in Search (evaluation of an "average" scout) than in my own Roster Screen (evaluation of my Scouting Director).
More and more I'm feeling that this phenomenon is a quirk in the engine rather than a design choice. As for the weirdness with the right-hand scroll bar in the trade screen, I've noticed that too. It seems to me the game almost needs to "catch up" to the scroll bar. If I scroll quickly and select a player, it will bring up the wrong player's screen. But if I scroll slowly, wait a second, then select a player, it will bring up the right player. One other bit of scroll-bar weirdness occurs if you do this: 1. Go to Find Player by Ratings 2. Click Find Players, which will return a list of just about everybody who makes under $10 million. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and view that player, then right-click out. 4. Select New Search 5. Now create a search criteria that will return a very small number of players, say Starting pitchers with an era rating of 9 or more, then click Find Players 6. The Found Players window will now tell you it has found a certain number of players (in this case in my game, it found 2 pitchers), but their names are not visible and can't be viewed at all. |
