Why isn't the Patriots-Colts game on MNF or SNF?
I find it hard to believe that when the schedule was made this game wasn't automatically put down as a primetime matchup. The NFL should have known both teams would be dominant this season. Because it's on Sunday afternoon on CBS we won't get to see it over here in Australia.
Our coverage shows four games from each week of the season, being two Sunday afternoon games from Fox (so usually the crappy NFC), the Sunday night game and the Monday night game, both on ESPN. So this weekend we get to see: Arizona @ Tampa Bay ( )Seattle @ Cleveland ( )Dallas @ Philadelphia Baltimore @ Pittsburgh Stupid, stupid NFL. |

I don't think this starts until Week 12 or so.

By the way, the Cowboys-Patriots game earlier this year was the most watched regular season NFL game in the last 10 years, and the most since the golden years of Cowboys-49ers.
That game was also on CBS at 4:15pm. I don't think NFL really have any problem showing an important game at that time slot.

Oakland would be included on that list but they are getting blacked out.... so they have to watch the Indy-Pats.

Why wouldn't Cleveland get the Pats/Colts game? The Browns will be on Fox.

I always thought that the Sunday and Monday night games were supposed to be the best matchups of the week. That's why I'm surprised that it's not on in either of those timeslots.

You can't give all the gems to ESPN or NBC. You got to let CBS and FOX have a chance to get ratings, too.

I didn't start this.
CBS could show it in Prime Time.

A prime time airing is actually quite a good idea and would likely give CBS a bigger number than their regular prime time lineup.

You make it sound like a bad thing. I was pissed I was gonna have to watch Oakland and Houston slap each other like a couple of girls while the big boys duked it out. Saves me from having to go to the only sports bar with half the city to watch it on Sunday ticket. Now I get to kick back in the comfort of my own home. Now if Suddenlink would get it together and get me HD CBS and FOX already I'd be a really happy camper.

This game is gonna be the most watched regular season game in recent history either way, but I think it's quite obvious CBS prime time programs would do much better than whatever they can fill the afternoon time slot.

It's hard to find hard data for each game, but the Chiefs-Steelers game which was a national 4:15 game in mid-October of 2006 did a 13.5 and a national 4:15 game between the Giants and Cowboys on December 3, 2006 did a 19.1.
The Sunday Night games are usually in the 9s or so. While the above are just 2 examples, I think it's pretty safe to say the 4:15 national game is the NFL's most watched game every week. |
