NBA 07/08 Season

I am probably not the best person to start a thread for the NBA, considering my interest has dwindled for years. But I actually am starting to get excited for it once again. I think the East finally has some depth it has been lacking and the West is still incredibly balanced. Here is what teams have been able to really grab my interest:

Boston - I am a Celtics homer, but whether I was or not, adding both KG and Ray Allen were two huge splashes for this franchise and entire conference.

Cleveland - Defending East Champs with the most complete player in the league. Lebron is truly King James.

Detroit - Still a tough team to play..they seem to be able to plug in their holes well year after year and remain competitive. Billups may still be the most underrated player in the league.

Miami - If Wade can get healthy, they can still be a title contender. Shaq is too broken down to do it alone though.

Chicago - This team is definitely going to be fun to watch, even if they do not get Kobe. Deng, Gordon and Wallace make a good three to build around, plus with some talented players rising in other positions, this could be a contending team for a long time.

Jersey - Kidd, Jefferson and Carter. People salivate at Boston's Big 3 right now, but this three is definitely good enough to contend in the East.

Denver - Moving out to the West teams, I start here because of the talented duo of AI and Melo. They started off last night as well as one could hope and continue to show their talents can mesh together. Throw in Camby with his rebounding and defensive abilities and they can contend.

Lakers - They have Kobe. That may be all, but its still enough to be a threat and to be interesting. If they can move him to Chi for even close to what they want, they will still be interesting to see what they can build off of.

San Antonio - Defending champs. Only reason I list them is because they are good. But if it comes down to watching them play in the Finals again, I will be skipping it once more. Just too damn boring to care about.

Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Utah - All good teams still. All good threats. Not much changed.

Anyways, anyone here actually excited for this season?

I kind of am again this season, due to the improvement that the Blazers should show.

But while I was watching a few games the last couple of days (HOU at LAL, DAL at CLE, SEA at DEN), I still felt like something was missing. I can't put my finger on it, though. I found some vintage NBA games from the 90's as well as early 2000 (on youtube), and that old jittery feeling started to come back...'

Maybe it was the classic NBA on NBA entrance and theme music (that ALWAYS got me going), or even the great rivalries (Bulls vs Knicks, Blazers vs Lakers, ect). The game was SOOO exciting back then. I even sometimes forgot about baseball because I was soo enthused about the playoffs. From the excellent court designs and colorful jerseys (the 1993 Suns and EARLY 90's Sonics jerseys), to the great storylines about each series.

I'm trying to get back into the NBA, but sometimes I find it sort of, bleh. I'm trying though

Just wish some things could have stayed from yesteryear...

I follow the Raptors and that's about it.

I seriously love that they've somehow managed to slide back under the radar. They don't have the sexy names, but that's fine. They're scary deep.

They win the Atlantic last year, only get better and people pick them to miss the playoffs, I love it. I don't see Miami being very good this year, and Cleveland is horrid as well. No way the Raps don't make the playoffs.

Agreed. They look very good, and should make the playoffs out of the East.

18-64 sounds about right for the Sixers.

I'm really going to enjoy this year -- there are close to ten teams who have a legitimate shot of some kind to make the Finals: balance in both conferences has improved and the depth in the East is better, though not good enough yet.

My pick is Spurs over Bulls when it's all said and done.

Who would have thought Daequan Cook would be the first of the 3 OSU 1st rounders to score a point in the NBA??

7/12 FG's 3/4 on 3's for 17 points.

I wish he would have shot like that at OSU.

I can't believe Conley got hit with the dreaded DNP-CD in their opener.

I said it when the trade was made and I'll say it again, Boston better win something of note in the next 2-3 years because Al Jefferson is going to be a perennial all-star. Gerald Green could be too if his basketball skills ever approach his athleticism.

Me either, you have to wonder what the hell Memphis is doing playing Damon Stoudemire 30 MPG instead of letting Lowry and Conley take their lumps.

Wow -- Sac scores 23 points in the first HALF against SA. Kevin Martin is the only King to score more than four points ... that's just embarassing. And I totally agree with Marc on Al Jefferson -- he's going to be good to real good for a real long time, and I don't think the Celts have enough complementary players to make it worth the deals they made.
