If the least that would happen is Begeron gets flattened against the boards and plays on then Jones would have got a Hitting from Behind penalty. Why was he so happy to do that? He just wasn't thinking and stupidity is reason for punishment in life too.

If you were Begeron what would you have done if you knew Jones was coming, which I'm sure he didn't until it was too late. Jones was in the crease when he started chasing his man down and Begeron was already looking the other way. Not everyone can be as great as The Moose No matter what Old Man Cherry says, he was NOT asking for it.

Good for him, it's about time he did something other than stand there and wait for someone to save him. And it's great to see LeCavalier keep it up but it won't be so great when he breaks his hand, then people will say he shouldn't have been fighting.

Cherry's original intention was to warn youngsters and that they should learn from this incident. He didn't condone it either! He gave his opinion, he's a well respected guy and I aswell as many others agreed with him. You did not, thats your opinion.

I had to look twice when I saw it was him! Hopefully he'll stay fit and only drop the gloves a few times more this season, TB need him healthy!

Oh I totally get his point It's just why not warn against hitting from behind as well?

It's not unusual for him now as such but it's still special to see a skilled player drop the gloves and hold his own. He has fought Iginla, Chara(!!) and now Morrison and Hartnell. He's a killer! He's probably got the best chance among NHL players to get the Gordie Howe hat trick - http://www.youtube.com/user/hockeyfightsdotcom

Well, I didn't hear what Cherry said, but I'm not sure "well respected guy" is what I'd use to describe him.

O'Brien, who was mic'd up for Thursday's game, was on the bench when Lecavalier and Hartnell engaged. When the scrap concluded, O'Brien screamed gleefully, "Vinnie, you're a killer! You're a killer Vin!"
The thing about Vin fighting though is he and his sparring partner sit for five minutes. I think a lot of teams will take that trade-off as it will mostly be the fighters he's up agianst.

Well you would say that, you're one of the French-Canadian "wimps who like their visors" He does say the odd good thing, but mostly it's drivel IMO.

He's eccentric and flambouyant but you still gotta love him! You've got to admit you'll miss him when he's gone! It could be worse for some people, they might get JR to replace him!!

There is such immense backlash to whatever he says here in Québec, where he's seen as an idiotic redneck racist.

I didn't realise he was hated as much as that in Quebec! Good win for the Habs on the road! Kostitsyn really got up Crosby's nose, I thought he was about to drop the gloves.

The Canadian Press

10/28/2007 12:46:21 PM

TORONTO - NHL Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell has ruled the Philadelphia Flyers will be punished for the hit Flyers defenseman Randy Jones delivered on Bruins center Patrice Bergeron on Saturday.

"This is the third incident I've had to assess from the Flyers this year, and quite frankly I'm sick of it. It's interrupting my nap time," Campbell said. "So effective immediately, I am instructing the Philadelphia Flyers organization to play the soothing music of John Tesh in the dressing room prior to every game."

Sources inside the Flyers organization say the players are extremely unhappy with the ruling. On Sunday when officials tested Tesh's latest cd, two Flyers players received minor injuries during a stampede out of the dressing room.

When news of the punishment was released, Las Vegas bookies changed the odds of the Flyers winning the Stanley Cup from 2-1 to 100,000-1. Only The Toronto Maple Leafs have worst odds.

I agree with Savard on this issue, I actually hope the NHL make an example out of Jones so that this kind of incident doesn't happen again.

I have to say when I saw that hit, I thought he'd broken his kneck at first. Glad he's not too seriously injured though.

I think it would be good for the Flyers as well, otherwise the players will police the game themselves with Briere and Gagne becoming HUGE targets.

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) - NHL veteran Peter Bondra retired from professional hockey Monday to become the general manager of his Slovakia's national team.

"I kept it a secret for a long time. They will know overseas only after this press conference," Bondra said, according to a report from the Slovak national hockey association. "I hope I can help Slovakia win another medal at the world championship."
Didn't do too bad for an 8th round pick. Over 500 goals, nearly 900 points with over 750 PIM to his name in the NHL.

To be fair, if the USSR had disintegrated a few years earlier, a guy who scores a point per game in the Czech(oslovakian) league at the age of 20 would have been drafted before the 8th round on the year he turns 22.

QFT. I never would have guessed he was drafted after the first round!

In Randy Jones news, he gets a two game suspension -

The National Hockey League has suspended Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Randy Jones for two games for his hit on Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron on Saturday.

Bergeron was diagnosed with a broken nose and a concussion after being hammered to the boards face-first by Jones in Boston's 2-1 loss to Philadelphia.

He was released from hospital on Sunday and the Bruins are expected to address his status today.

Two whole games? Wow. They really threw the book at him. I thought it'd be something like a game and a period, tops.

Bondra used to be the man for the Caps back in the day.
