Wilson-Walker
Anyone see the TJ Wilson KO of Travis Walker on Friday at Sacramento, California? Anything fishy about this? Wilson was in only his second fight in three years (12-1) and Walker was unbeaten at 25-0-1. The fight lasted 15 seconds!

I saw the fight. Neither is any good. I thought it was stopped early but Walker was stunned. I would have rather see him hit the canvas first before stopping it. It wasn't nearly a Tommy Morrison moment.

It was a quick stoppage by the ref. Wilson backed Walker into a corner & let his hands go. Walker got stung by a few punches but didn't appear badly hurt. Instead, it looked like he was trying to weather the onslaught until Wilson tired.
The problem was that Walker was doing absolutely nothing while Wilson was raining in punches: no movement, no counters, no clinching, no particularly good defense. Kind of like a heavyweight version of the Calzaghe/Manfredo stoppage. |

I recall that Manfredo lasted better than 15 seconds....
Was Walker on drugs or something? Sounds more like the ref jumped the gun, unless Wilson caught Walker with an Earnie Shavers Special and had him out standing up. Who were the 25 guys that Walker had beaten previously, or was it the same guy 25 times? Cap

I never really thought Walker was relevant in the current HW picture and Wilson weighed 280 pounds for the fight and somehow got a gift stoppage thanks to an inept referee. I hope ShoBox doesn't bother to show those two again.

Travis Walker is a typical example of a heavyweight who builds a lofty record beating up tomato cans. Somewhat reminiscent of Mike Tyson challenger Peter McNeely, who entered the ring against the comebacking former champion with an impressive 36-1 (30 KOs) mark back in '95, compiled vs fighters who had won only 32.3% of their fights.
Beginning with "Iron Mike", his competition definitely improved, (.684), but McNeeleys' record from that time on suffered accordingly. (11-6 w 6 KOs)

I think there might have been more involved in Mcneely's record than cans of veggies. His amateur record was 10-10.....how he was 25-1 or something going into the Tyson fight was beyond me.
