Nice win by the Canes in Montreal last night, avenging our loss in our home opener. Cam Ward was electric, and if he keeps it up, he could break Gerber's record, right Creed?

I disagree with you, because a vicious hit can be inconsequential and a borderline body check can end a player's career if he doesn't land right. But, yeah, the "crime" should lead to a higher penalty than what the victim is subject to, in general, but I think throwing them out for good would do the trick .

Cam Ward wasn't nearly as good as Cristobal Huet.

But then again, the Canadien wasn't nearly as good as the Hurricanes, so it's all for naught .

Or a whole season like I suggested for Bertuzzi/Moore type situations But yeah, I wouldn't whine about some thug sitting out longer.

Ward is really up for it this season, looks like the Canes are going back to the playoffs.

What's exciting about this team is how young they are. Loads of talent on the roster so the team should only improve over the next few years.

I should have worded that better I meant, it would be nice to see them lift the cup instead of getting in the post season and loosing to the Sens.

They haven't won the cup since 1974/75!

Going past the first round 6 times since 94-95 isn't so bad. I'd love for the Canadien to have that. But hey, I doubt he was talking exclusively about the playoffs in his statement considering we're a few games into the regular season. Surely he wasn't basing his run at the cup based on 2007-2008 playoff results .

There are 30 franchises in the league. 13 of them have won the cup since that time. You're not too bad!

I've given up hope on that. I was watching that game with some friends of mine. Obviously their all Leaf fans. So afer the game ended, what do you think teh reason was that they blamed the loss on? Was it the horrid passing that resulted in half of their passes being either completely missed or intercepted? The zoning out of thier defense, with Newbury and McCabe looking like they just got hired off the street to play? The stupid penalties that Kubina seem to get over and over again?

Niope the blame was that Pretty Bitch Tucker got called for a penalty (that IMO wasn't a penalty, but I digress) that resulted int he game winner. Never mind the fact that they gave teh Penquins over fifty shots on Taskava, or that they let their players skate circles around them, or if their defensemen didnt' have their head in the cluds it would have been at least 4-2 when the goal was scored. Nope, it was the refs fault. Their all out to get us.

Rangers: Seem to still be trying to get a groove back after the closing of the Madison Square Retirement Home
Islanders: WE all know they suck. Next
Pittsburgh: Talent that is still green, but as the Leafs found out, will burn you if you let them
New Jersey: NO the same team they used to be.

So you've got two teams that are crap, and too that are either green or not in a groove. Add that to you're tied with the Islanders and I wouldn't be dressing up William Penn just yet.

He got it back last Saturday. I think he had the orbital bone broken on his right eye.

Ballard passed away years ago, and the team has had several owners since then, and they still can't stop the bleeding.

Greg
The current owners are just a more benevolent version of Ballard. They can maximize their profit by putting out a mediocre team.

At least post-Ballard they had a few good runs, first under Fletcher then under Quinn but the post-lockout Leafs are terrible because the organization has never been great at drafting (and when they were they gave away those prospects for old guys). Now in the new NHL, they actually have to build the team properly and don't know how/don't have the gut to do it right.

dola

hopefully this year is a total washout which forces JF Jr to be fired and the team to actually realize they need to rebuild. The worst thing that can happen to the Leafs is to either just make or just miss the playoffs, thus perpetuating the illusion to the top brass they are only a few peices away from...something.

Well ehre's hoping that the illusion of being a competitive is snapped soon, then maybe both management and fans will realize that they realyl havent' been Stanley Cup bound for any of the seasons (sans 1993) since '67.

Of course I used to be hopeful that Leaf zealots weren't blind to reality as well so....

I salute you sir, that was a fine rant. Its probably one of the finest I have seen for many a year! I hope after you finished you cracked open a cold one and sat back smiling! (I know I would of!)

To be honest that's why I like this site, people are free to give their opinions and not be influenced by others. Bravo!!

By the way I honestly think its way too early to say who will win the cup but all I ask for is some good, clean, skillful hockey.
