Cal's been retired a while now. Frank is still an active player with minimal TV experience. Makes sense to me.

Yeah, you can tell the difference in the way Ripken looks into the camera when he speaks while Thomas is looking down at his notes or something when he is talking. Also, he has to speak up. What he says is not bad in itself so far, however.

Heh heh...Barkley never won a damn thing as a player, but he sure is interesting to listen to.

I was shocked to see Frank Thomas in the studio. Two strikes on him to start with, he is soft spoken by nature and as an active player (disputable I know) he is not likely to criticize other players.

He seemed to fall back on generalities instead of picking something specific to make a point. Not surprising for a first timer.

Ripken looks comfortable and polished but I didn't hear anything particularly insightful.

Agree.

I think Ripken could do it full time - I just hope I don't have to hear about how many consecutive broadcasts he ends up doing.
