It is official: Money Ball does not work!

http://www.baselinereport.com/baselineblog/?p=248

My favorite part:

A GM absolutely controls what happens in a short series. Its all about preparation (scouting), and match-ups, equal to keeping the correct player personnel.

There are three definite pieces;
1. having the right players
2. having a manager capable of managing a big game
3. a GM or front office supporting the plan with trades and the winning player personnel.

It is most assuredly NOT about luck! Preparation, Execution, and Commitment.

Yeah. That was one of FJM's finest. From memory ... "This sentence takes the English language by the throat, pins it against the wall, and slashes it across the face with a broken beer bottle."

I heart FJM.

I've read this blog entry three times now - I've no idea what it is trying to say.

That Billy Beane's Moneyball is stupid and that the A's suck and that they will never win a world series because of Moneyball and the Yankees will win the world series because of fundamentals and because they play the game the right way.

This is only getting attnetion because the man is a former player

There are much better (still wrong but better) critiques of the saber philosophy. I regard this about as highly as some of the poorly written garbage I see around here

Pags won a World Series as a starting 3B with an OBP of .322. Of course he wouldn't understand "Moneyhaul". Thank goodness for FJM. Someone had to shred that thing.

Although I at least admire Pags for responding within the comments, he's still ridiculously wrong.

Most people who immediately associate OBP with Moneyball don't understand it either.

Should I have left it or would it have upset some? I figured it wasn't worth someone getting worked over.

The luster is off the MONEYBALL train's caboose, much like the broom is off the rose in a squalid Vietnamese quagmire of their own making. Billy Beane's bird has been stoned to death by OBP, OMG, and A/S/L-LMAO weilding nerds who escaped from their box in Willy Wonka's candy making factory.

By allowing Steve Erkel of the television show to evaluate his players, Beane has set his team back into the days of black-and-white television and we're not talking about Kirk and Ohura, boys and women. Jay P. Richardsi won't be sending any bale money for Beane this time around and much like Judas sold out Jesus, Beane is going to be crucified.

But he never walked on water to begin with, despite trying to sell the Major League industry a dry bill of goods built on faulty, un-traditional, analyses.
