Suggestions for upcoming versions.

Hello,

Let me start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of the OOTP series. I've enjoyed watching the game progress over the years. This thread is merely a list of suggestions that I think would improve the realism of the game.

1) Awards

Current Awards:
Best Pitcher Award (Cy Young Award)
Best Hitter Award (Hank Aaron Award)
Defensive Wizard Award (Gold Glove Award)
New Player Of the Year Award (Rookie of the Year Award)
Custom Award (I Don't use this)

Suggested Awards:
Best Pitcher Award (Cy Young Award)
Best Hitter Award (Hank Aaron Award)
Defensive Wizard Award (Gold Glove Award)
Offensive Position Award (Silver Slugger Award)
Most Valuable Player Award
New Player Of the Year Award (Rookie of the Year Award)
Custom Award (I Don't use this)

Lesser Suggestions for Awards:
Best Relief Pitcher Award (Rolaids Relief Picter of the Year)
Comeback Player of the Year
All-Star Game MVP
World Series MVP
Manager of the Year

2)Player contracts

Incentives

Currently I am limited to the following format:
$1,000,000 for 500 PA(plate appearances)

This format would add more flexibility and realism:
$250,000 for 400 PA
$250,000 for 450 PA
$250,000 for 500 PA
$250,000 for 550 PA

Lesser suggestion for Incentives:

In additon to the suggested format the way Incentives are currently setup we're limited to offering incentives on a every year bases for the duration of the contract. I might want to limit incentives to the last year of the contract or spread them across 2 years as a total.

3)Options

Current Options:
Player
Team
Mutual

Suggested Options:
Player
Team
Mutual
Buyout (A team option with a fee for terminating the contract)
Automatic (The option year is guaranteed with meant conditions. EXAMPLE - 450 PA in the previous season)

4) Deferred salary

Currently for an expensive superstar I'm limited to a three year deal like this:
2007 - $15,000,000
2008 - $15,000,000
2009 - $15,000,000

Having a deferred salary option allows for more flexibility when dealing with such expensive contracts.
2007 - $10,000,000
2008 - $10,000,000
2009 - $10,000,000
2010 - Deferred $5,000,000 at 1.5% interest
2011 - Deferred $5,000,000 at 1.75% interest
2012 - Deferred $5,000,000 at 2% interest

5)More bonuses

Currently we are limited to bonuses for the Cy Young Award and the Hank Aaron Award. Why not add bonus options for Gold Gloves, All-Star selections, etc.

6)Managers and coaches have limited contract options. This should be vastly improved. Prehaps a bonus to the manager for a winning team record or a World Series victory.

7)Stadium options. For some reason I think that when I change the dimensions of the ballpark the multipliers should automaticly adjust accordingly.

8)Minor League Salaries and Signing bonuses.

I really like the High School and College feeder league options in OOTP 2007. It's a huge step foward and in my opinion creates a need for draft pick signing bonuses. There needs to be an element of signability given the realism of these feeder leagues.

Minor league players need an option for a salary. I believe this is important for old school leagues where major leaguers were paid less and a large percentage of a clubs budget was pumped into the farm system for player develoment.

9) Option for a Luxury Tax. This plays an important role in how many clubs in the current era handle payroles.

10)Lesser suggestion - Player Agents

Given all the financial suggestions I have given I thought it might be a good idea to introduce an idea for player agents with different tendencies for contract negations. Of course this is a very rough down the road type of suggestion.

I know I had a bunch of other suggestions in mind but I can't remember them all at the moment. If any of my current suggestions gather any interest I'll make it a point to write down my future ideas for suggestions.

I thank you all for taking the time to read this. I welcome all feedback.

Kind regards,

Vivid

hahaha this is true

But in all seriousness, there is a suggestions forum...and many of those suggestions are already in there. And for some that aren't, the chances that they're seen by the correct people are better in the suggestions forum than here.

These are all good suggestions, and some have found their way to the Suggestions forum already- in particular, if I remember correctly, the suggestions about stadium dimensions, agents, incentive options, minor league salaries and amateur draft signing bonuses. I'd very much like to see buyouts attached to team options, as is always the case in real life, and two-tiered mutual options (club has option to renew at a certain salary, player has option at a lower salary if club refuses). Vesting options would also be interesting.

I do think it's important to strike a balance between realism and playability. Deferred money in contracts, for example, while certainly realistic, might be too complicated to be worth introducing in the game. I think I'd feel the same way about staggered incentives.

In any case, I hope you'll post some of these to the Suggestions forum- or if you aren't planning to, drop a line here, and I will.

Put suggestions in the suggestions forum, and they get individually addressed by Markus and Andreas.

Put them in this forum, and they are a nice topic of conversation, probably best savored with a good cup of coffee or a cold beer.

What game do you want in 2008?

Is everyone allowed to post a suggestion in the suggestions forum ? I assumed it was just a working list for mods (RE: it seems all the threads were started by battists - a mod ... and I am unable to post).

That's strange...I don't think you can create new threads, but you should be able to post......I'm by no means a forum guru, or a computer guru for that matter, but I've been able to post dozens of suggestions in the suggestions forum.

You cannot create new threads. You can post a reply in an existing thread. The limited number of threads keeps things a bit focused and organized, both highly appealing traits.
