Really about the only thing I can do that would be even remotely helpful to the process would be, instead of releasing a beta, would be to run a blog as I test where I could think outloud and allow people to see my thought process and maybe bounce some ideas in.
Would anyone actually comment on it if I were to do this? |

In fact, I'll give you web space to post your league reports so we can all get in on this.

I'd like to get a little closer to the finish line before I started on sharing league reports. Maybe I will take a small breather from full testing this week, and finish knocking out the last of the remaining players to add. Mostly draft picks but a few other players that weren't on OD rosters. Then do something with the reports in about a week to ten days. But my idea of a blog was more meant just to get people to maybe catch something I am missing as i screw with the numbers

I will go out on the limb here and state that THERE IS NO AP ROSTER SET being created or created. I believe this guy is hosing us, baiting us like a perch and pulling us into this so called roster set only to release the line let us go out a bit and get lured back in with bigger and better "bait". This roster set only resides in one place, the active imagination of APujols5.
With that being said, proof me wrong AP. Your last posts all have said within a few weeks or very soon. Well that time has come and gone and still nothing but your word that you have this roster set. I for one doubt that there is a roster set and you will either tell the community that it is not good enough and not release one, or you will say that it is great but it is only yours and you don't want to share it. Many offers to test and to run the rosters as second eyes to see where the help is needed have been offered but turned down by you. This leads me to believe that you have nothing. No name calling here just a logical guess of where you are with this set - which does not exist. You just need to be in the limelight with your so-called test. None of the other roster makers took this amount of time and posted as many messages as you and yet they have all put out a product. Maybe not perfect, some better than the others, but at least they put out an honest product without seeking the glory, other than a few thank you notes. I hope that you do complete this, I hope that I am wrong, but at this time I stand by the belief that this will never come out..... Regards, Sandman Last edited by SandMan; 09-01-2007 at 03:55 PM. |

Here's what people are missing out on. And it's a really simple fact, I don't want to do this as a community project like cubby did. I don't want or particularly need input on the ratings. I realize this sounds very very self centered as if I am a know it all. But in reality it's not, I have worked out the way I am creating the ratings and it uses mathmatical forumulas based on league and age of the player. This leaves no gray area for me need to discuss the ratings. And yes I have mistakenly thought I was close to being done before. Should I have said that? No I probably shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Because as I adjust one thing, I would come across something else that I don't like. But as of right now, I am more than sure that I really only have 2 flaws left to fix. and I have come really really close on one of the problems. I just need to find the exact set of numbers to use to find the perfect middle ground on aging and development. Right now I can get it to where I have 4-5 too many 40 year olds playing, or I have too few mid to late 30's. Finally I am playing with the team AI to see what has the best effects on player management. I have suggested that if people are really that interested in the creative process, I can begin a blog which I would use to think out loud as I try different approaches to thse two things. And after I do some house cleaning on the set, I am willing to take Fidel up on his offer of space to put up some league reports. But under no means will there be a beta. That's because there's not going to be a 2nd release no matter what. This will be a one off to give myself something to play around with wehn I just want to play the game, rather than continuing on towards my real goal and that's a more complete world mod rather than just MLB and minors.
And another thought, if I didn't absolutely hate the PECOTA ratings, I wouldn't even care about finishing the MLB and minors only release. But if I was going to use Cubby's set, I would be rerating everyone anyhow. Because the game I will be playing with my own roster is only a diversion in reality. I won't play my most serious game until I have added murmur's Japanese set, added all the US indy leages, NCAA, Mexico, Cuba, Netherlands and Italy. and probably some rigged up version of a HS feeder leagues. And again this will sound crappy, but this is mainly be created for myself. Ireally don't care if anyone else uses it or likes it. I am only sharing it because I know at least 3 other people that want it for sure. Last edited by APujols5; 09-01-2007 at 04:26 PM. |

On 2nd thought, If someone can come up with even one thing I gain by releasing a beta version, I will seriously consider it

And I don't really care about that to be honest. I am not doing this for glory. I am doing this to play the game and to share some of the stuff I have learned from tearing the game to pieces. I have shared a fair amount of my learnings with Cubby and will do so with Erich if time ever allows him to keep working on his set
Why does everyone want another half finished set anyhow? wouldn't it be better to have one that's done and right? Last edited by APujols5; 09-01-2007 at 04:58 PM. |

Anyway, if you don't care one bit about glory, then you are not human and probably just facegen or something. If I were to make one freaking organization accurately on a roster set, I would be proud enough to release it. I would even pump my fist into my chest a couple of times, raise my fist up to kiss it, and then point skyward to thank my creator as if he gave a crap. I'm still giving you the benefit of the doubt. |

You people pick it then, because there's only going to be one release, you can have it now if it's that big of a deal...
ratings are still in spread sheet format, there are still missing players and the Ai is still gonna be be sucky. Or You can let me finish my tests, finish adding the players, and input the ratings. But either way, the release is a one off, and then I am moving forward onto the other things I have planned. My world universe set, a lone college league, and my big master plan for OOTP 2008. I am at a point where I don't even care anymore what you all decide. This community saps all the fun out of doing things like this anyhow. So either make your voice known here, or someone can start a poll and decide. |

My two cents, and its probably not worth that much--
You should release the roster set when you are happy putting your name on it, not a minute sooner. No feedback or blogs, because that will just eat into the time you can devote to finishing the roster set. If you don't want a community roster set with your name on it, then a hybrid blog system just slows things down. Make clear you want no feedback directed to you on the roster set, if its a non-community, single release project for your purposes only, and shared with the group, we should accept it on those terms. The minute it is released, the group can take the work and turn it into a community project, should enough people so choose. Even a discussion group would go a long way to letting everyone tweak to their own tastes. Best of luck on the roster set. If it turns out as good as you hope and expect, we will all benefit. |

If for some reason there is an actual AP roster out there I can guarantee he will not give permission for anyone to then take that roster and add to it. He's already stated that the ratings are from his "secret" formula and I'm sure he'll deny anyone access to this formula.
This is all soon to be moot anyway because I'm sure he's gearing up for another one of his meltdown/blowups and just scrap the whole thing. It's happened before and will happen again. He's already said he burnt out on the whole thing several times. It's deja vu all over again! I do love how he's claiming he's not in this for the glory or the praise yet states everyone else's rosters are half finished and his will be the best. Quite a modest chap isn't he? |

We should know pretty quickly whether we get a great roster set for 2007, or have to wait and just hope SI and OOTP have a friendlier environment for roster makers in 2008. |
