So you won the World Series, now what?
I was curious what other managers do once they achieve that World Series title. I usually tend to go straight into rebuilding mode, letting older, high priced FA's go and instead go with youth. I don't really know why, but I never really try to go for it all two years in a row. Although this time I went for it. I won the World Series in 2009, and kept intact pretty much the same squad the following year, including signing some older guys that were eligible for free agency. But perhaps the fact that after a World championship my team always does terrible the next year, might be the reason I never bother for back to back titles. Case in point, I'm 40-41 with the exact same team that won it all the previous year, and this is despite the fact I had a really young pitching staff who went UP in ratings over the offseason, yet my team is below .500 and about 6 games back of the wildcard.

I always try for the repeat if my team is still young enough.

I agree with Falcon that it seems wise to ditch the big salaries and players over 30. They decline so markedly that I've never had back to back contenders after a World Series.
It seems like you can trade your big-money players, even in their final year, as long as you do it before they're approaching mid-30s. Can get some front-line prospects, sometimes even two, and I rush them into the majors if they already have good enough ratings. I know it probably slows their development, but I've gotten some very good and young players that way at $300,000 compared to those $7-8 mil salaries. Helps build the war chest for going and getting the expensive Free Agents if you really need them. I set team cash maximum pretty high, $50 million, to reward turning a profit and keeping payroll in line. I don't use salary caps.

I've got a player on my team with my name. This uber-1B or SP was created after a bunch of simmed seasons, and I took over the team that drafted him. After I win the WS two times in a row, I scout the league for perennial low-market cellar-dweller squads and take one over before we sign coaches. I work an AI-acceptable trade for "me," (forcing the issue if I have to, but I never have) and start the process of building a crappy team into a powerhouse all over.
This year, I simply continued my OOTP4 league, and am simming the game out until "I" retire. Then I'll sim two years, and "my" son will enter the draft, and I'll start a Managerial Career.

You have to go for it! If you don't make it back, so be it. But you "owe" it to the fans
Even if you have to "Celtic" it.

I am still playing OOTP4, and am now playing in the year 2045.
I've made the playoffs many, many times, but only to the World Series twice. My pitching always fails in the play-offs. Is it my coaching staff, or is it the pitcher's 'consistency' or 'clutch' rating? |

I'm having trouble keeping a good team intact in v5, and I love it.
I squeaked in to the postseason in 2004, swept the first two rounds, then lost in 7 games in the WS. In 2005, I got in to the postseason easily, but once again lost in the WS, this time in 6 games. The next season, I got to the championship series, then lost. That next season, I didn't even make the playoffs. I was two games out of the wild card race, and my team doesn't look like it'll be improving this season. |

Repeat as often as possible. I try to jack up the teams market and fan loyalty with a bunch of postseason appearances before I move to rebuild another team. Manager Mode will change this aspect of my play. Been too busy working to play enough seasons in OOTP5.
