How embarrassing!
I'm screwing around on the beta, and I make a really bad catcher. I mean, all 1's in the raw ratings, especially catcher arm. I decide to manage Detroit for a game and make a position player pitch (23-8-1 in raw pitching ratings).
Baltimore's leadoff hitter, Gustavo Hernandez, singles to start the game. Next guy grounds out. Gustavo is then CAUGHT STEALING by the position player/bad catcher battery! The next pitch, their 3-hole hitter slams a homer! After that I hit some people and intentionally walk some people, and Gustavo comes up again. He fouls a couple pitches off, then STRIKES OUT LOOKING for out 3! That makes a caught stealing and a backwards K in the same inning to a battery consisting of a position player and a catcher! I bet he got the business on the team bus for that performance! In short, OOTP 2007 rules. http://home.comcast.net/~jerryarr/Embarass.htm |

With the last patch, I simmed an entire season using an outfielder as catcher- 1s in all catcher ratings (out of 200). He threw out nearly 30% of basestealers on the year, so I don't find your CS result too surprising. I think there is a game issue with weak C arms; even the weakest-armed catchers seem to be guaranteed a decent CS% (near to break-even, as far as runs allowed), in part, perhaps, because weaker basestealers will test them more often.
I summarized the results here (post 13 compares Wagner, the outfielder-turned-catcher, with other Cs in the league): http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=151243 |

I have logged an issue, 3845, regarding position players converted to catchers being too good...
Thanks! Steve |
