Players randomly released

After playing for 30-some seasons, I've run into a problem with players (position and pitchers) being randomly released (both on human run teams and computer run). If you look at the team history or their history, there is no mention of any transaction (release, injury or whatever) ... just one day they are signed by a new team. Sometimes they are quite talented players as well (the most recent from my team was a 28 year old pitcher who had just pitched a perfect game and appeared in the all-star game... and then 2 weeks later signed with a japanese league team...

This has been reported at least twice before, once involving Randy Johnson (if I remember correctly). Whoever logs this should try to search Logged or Closed issues.

Thanks for pointing out the previous threads... but it looks like they were closed because no one ever bothered replying to them again not necessarily because they were solved.

I seem to be having the exact same problem that the others in the links Curtis posted have had. I do have the latest patch and I'm running it on a Mac (the others didn't say what platform they were using).

As for my settings, I have had the computer AI running the minor leagues and setting the major league lineups. I retain control over roster moves and demotions. I have noticed that the minor league managers like to sign players on their own even though they aren't supposed to...

This has also just happened to me, in the 18th season of an MLB-style league. Latest patch, on a Mac. I've got screenshots- Fernando 'Seaweed' Velasquez is in the middle of a three year contract with Cincinatti, and during the September stretch run he mysteriously signs a new contract with San Diego, even though, as you can see from his history, he was never released. He was also in the second year of a three year contract, so he was a while away from free agency. I control my team (Cincinatti) transactions, and it's a complete mystery to me how he disappeared from my roster- nothing I did. There's also no record of any moves involving the player in my team's September transaction logs, and he was definitely on my roster on Sept 1st (I adjusted rotations after the callups and he was there; I made him the 5th starter).

He did sign with his new team ten days after September roster expansion. I am playing with waivers on (3 days) and a ten day dfa period. I was not playing in Commissioner mode when this happened.

Did you have scouting enabled, and more specifically scouting for hidden players? Could it be this issue here:

In my case, it was the issue with hidden player scouting- ghol's case may be different, however. It is likely the same issue if hidden players were enabled, 'delete retired players who never made the Majors' is on, and if the league has been in existence for a few years- otherwise it would be a different issue. ghol mentions his league had been around for 30 years, so if he has both other options on, it's probably the same problem.

Ok, that seems very plausible to me. I'm going to try to turn off "delete retiring players who never make it to majors" and see if that fixes the problem. Is that going to make the file size really huge?

It will make it larger, though the next patch should fix the issue. Did you have hidden player scouting enabled?

As we haven't heard back on this one in over three days, it will be closed for housekeeping reasons. If you need any further help with this issue, please post a link to this thread in Tech Support. Thanks.
