League name - The American Pastime (TAP)
League URL - http://legendsport.com/baseball/tap
League type - Historical hybrid
Special league rules - TAP started with the 1891 season with sixteen teams split into two leagues (Patriot and Federal) each with two divisions of four teams. The players are historical - and include ALL Negro League players as they debut (not just the stars). This enlarged player pool makes expansion a possibility after the 1900 season. For 1896, TAP is converting to OOTP 2007 after playing the first five seasons in OOTP 6.5. TAP is a "talent-only" league, current ratings are hidden and talents are shown on the 1-5 scale. TAP sims three times per week, with 15 gamedays played per sim, so the league is fast moving and has a solid core of GMs who have been with the league from day one.

TAP currently has four openings, due to the move over from 6.5 to OOTP 2007. The commish is in the process of moving the league over (getting the logos squared away, etc), so the site is still currently showing the 6.5 pages from prior to spring training.

The available teams are:

Jersey City Skeeters

New York Empires

Cleveland Spiders

Milwaukee Braves.

Relocation is a possibility for new management.

Cleveland has been claimed (and has the best record in the league) but New York, Jersey City and Milwaukee remain available. New York and Milwaukee are both just 1 game out in their respective divisions. Jersey City? Well.... they're struggling, but six back isn't too bad in a league that's only at the end of May.

Milwaukee has also been snapped up, so only New York remains available. The Empires are in first place, and have a good roster.

I highly recommend this league, if you are looking to join a historical league and follow along. The lack of posts on the message board can be deceiving, the owners in this league, do pay attention. We have built up just enough history to where free agency is starting to become fun and some real good players are starting to become available. We had our best offseason, last offseason, with both free agency and owners responding, via email, to make their picks in the ammy draft.

I enjoy following along so much that I just joined his GAB league. If you've ever wanted to join a historical league, you just might enjoy following along, too. For what it's worth.....the commish does not own a team in this league.

Cleveland is open again. We're in the offseason prior to the 1897 (our seventh) season right now - teams are finishing up contract extensions and the draft pool will be released on Thursday.

The Spiders finished just two games back in their division and have a decent squad.

With the 1897 season about to begin, Cleveland is still open - and now Brooklyn is open as well. Brooklyn is a good team, finishing 2nd with a 79-75 record in 1896 and is also a former championship team. Brooklyn features Negro League great Bill Selden and Jim Hughey anchoring the pitching staff while the offensive stars are catcher Ed Macfarland and outfielder Sam Thompson.
