You know you're immersed when...

...you keep writing the date as "2009" because that's what year your universe is in.

Yes, you are definately immersed.

I had a situation last year where I was talking with our Director of Security and I said something like "It's great that the Cards signed Frank Simoneaux, but at 19 million a year its a huge risk" Right after I said it I was thinking how I just confused OOTP with RL.

It was Version 6.5 and I was GM'ing the Cards and had just signed Simoneaux after late night bidding war.

The guy I was talking to was very puzzled. I can just picture him refreshing the transaction page on mlb.com to try and find the Simoneaux signing.

when I go to the bathroom at work, I often take my sweet time, because I'm thinking about my team's weaknesses and position in the standings. Its like the GM's office.

I've never been that bad, but when I lose a bidding war in OOTP for a player that is a free agent IRL, I find myself saying in discussions "Didn't he go to ______," saying the OOTP team.

People wonder where I got my bad info, but it's my little secret. When I realize my error, I usually just cover it up by saying that I read something about it in a newspaper or on the internet.

I don't play with real teams or players for the most part, but that doesn't stop me from having some level of confusion. Like, I will sometimes apply my OOTP thinking to my real life favorite team (the Mets) or real baseball in general. Not long ago, my team had about a 20 game lead on the division and a .700 winning percentage, just cruising through the year, and when I watched a Mets game, despite them being in first, I couldn't get over how much worse they were than my OOTP team. It was kind of disappointing. Over the years, I've had the opposite happen and more extreme versions. I've also found myself thinking about real life players as having ratings and stuff like that.

IMO, no one has topped my urge to right-click player links on ESPN.com in order to view player profiles.

I do that all the time, and wonder when ESPN will update the player pics to reflect morale changes.

Unhappy

I am Australian and have always been a huge fan of football (soccer) and the football manager series. But i downloaded the demo of ootpb 2007 loved it, i purchased the full version and i now spend every waking hour either playing my solo league, tinkering with my depth charts and strategies in online games or learning about the game by watching at least one archived game on mlb.com every day. I Know nothing about the sport but find it so addictive. My girlfriend said i was talking about rbi's and vorp in my sleep the other night goddammit. There are alot of similarities between cricket (australia's summer national sport) and baseball, Robin Williams once described cricket as baseball on valium. I find it hard to describe to my uneducated friends how a game they dont understand that consists of static screens and text based commentary can be so much fun Come to think of it i dont understand it but here i am 1.47am on a saturday morning 10 beers down and still crunching the numbers. The only thing that keeps me sane is seeing the amount of posts on this forum. Hi my names alex and i'm a ootpbaholic

I know the feeling Alex...many times I have the reject the urge to not hang out with my wife or friends in order to stay home and play OOTP. At work I jot down different ideas for my universe in the future, as well as think about my team (trades, etc.) Everytime my wife gets in the shower is an opportunity to play a game or two, I wake up 30 mins early every morning to get in a couple games.

Welcome Alex

I start work at 6.00am but get up at 5.00am to at least get a series out of the way. I'm a sport nut but this game (computer version and real life) has got me hooked. Good to see i'm not alone

They think that's weird then try and tell them how you are thinking about writing imaginary sports reports on this website detailing how your dynasty is fairing. The look on their face resembles a dog that has been shown a card trick.

The other game that I play a lot is City of Heroes, which is, of course, a MMORPG. So, even when I am logged off, things are happening in that world.

So, a few nights ago, I caught myself thinking, "Gee, I wonder if that Cuban kid I just offered a contract to will accept it by tomorrow when I get back on the game..."

Not surprisingly, the contract negotiations had not progressed while I was sleeping...

In one of my online leagues I had Dernell Stenson and he was a rock for my club for years. We were up to 2015 or 16 in the league when Stenson was found dead IRL. I had honestly never heard of Stenson until I drafted him and began to follow him. I was literally crushed by his passing. All because of our little game.

That is funny and sad about Stenson.

I remember when I did my 1962 Mets Dynasty in an old version of OOTP 3, and Ken Hobbs dominated the league for many years and didn't want to spoil the anomaly of the game by finding out who he was, but he died after the 1962 season in a plane crash which explained everything.

It is easy to get immersed in the game.

Russ Branyan in 2010 is the dominant home run hitter in the game. I get so immersed by the game that with the MLB trade deadline in 2007, I am hoping the Mets can land Branyan and then I realize he probably is a .215 hitting loser in AAA somewhere.

The Mets had not played the Pirates all season in MLB until this past week and because of my dynasty which is in 2010, I was all screwed up. I was scared when Nate McLouth came to the plate because he is a 20 homer .300 hitter in my dynasty but then his stats came on the screen and I was like, hmmmm.

Also the Bucs are in the AL in 2010 and are 12 games above .500 so I am thinking they are better than they are.

If you play long enough, reality of baseball becomes very blurred.

Do you guys ever get confused when you're watching a game a playing OOTP at the same time? Just now I got completely confused because the Twins kept scoring runs on TV and my Twins in OOTP kept giving up runs! I was conflicted on when to cheer and when to swear.
