1921 Amateur Draft Results

BAD CROP OF PITCHERS, BUT PLENTY OF SOLID BATS ARRIVE IN '21 DRAFT

1921 produced one of the worst crops of pitchers in league history, with only the pitching-starved Braves daring to select an arm in either the first OR second rounds, taking Al Cicotte and Norwood "Gibby" Gibson with their first two picks. Neither is likely to become a household name, but both should be able to step into the Boston rotation immediately.

Hitters on the other hand, were plentiful. Led by the exquisitely talented Bill Terry, 1921 saw a bumper crop of solid first basemen with both Zeke Bonura and Joe Pepitone likely to be strong performers. Good backstops also abounded with Earl Battey, Tom Haller, Billy Bryan and Carl Sawatski all going in the first round. Other top talents included Harlond Clift (3B), Jim Gilliam (2B) and Alvin Dark (SS) - a potentially dynamite infield... if they all played together (they won't).

If any team is short of catchers - the Cubs can help.

Grover Hartley, Willard Hershberger, Phil Roof, Charlie Reilly or Stan Lopata is available - looking for bullpen or defensive help

Red Sox could be headed to their 3rd straight World Series defeat.

There's some great news on the development side, though:
Quote:
Eddie Yost increased his bat control, resulting in more contact!
Eddie Yost has gained more power!
Eddie Yost has improved his plate disclipine!
He's only 22 and his talents are now 7/7/7/8/8!!! BOO-YAH!! Walking Man? Hell, how about SLUGGING MAN??

On a side note, Joe, you need to edit the Champions page. It says I lost the 1920 World Series 4 TIMES! Talk about pouring salt in my wounds

Could the basement dwellers for the last 10 years be in contention?

Tigers only 3 games back , the youngsters are starting to hit the ball.

With the pick of Danny O'Connell, starting SS Ray Washington is now available. PM me here or email me at metsgeek@yahoo.com.

If you have a hole in your middle infield, he'll fill it quite nicely for the next 5-6 years. Looking for prospects, or I could package him with another player for an upgrade (under 30, please).

I posted over in the forum that I cant update it due to numerous errors. I've tried all my tricks with no luck. I can try to rebuild it if I can get all the end of season files from the commish.

Nice season Red Sox! Usually a record of 102-52 will get a pennant. Not this year!

Man, I love Fred Heimach. The man is a legend. The clincher was a 2-1 outing against Washington on the 2nd to last day of the season for his 30th win. He's 36 years old, and it's the first time he's managed to crack the 30 win plateau....his 13th season with more than 20 wins.

He's also the Career Win leader with 389. I hope he sticks around for a couple more seasons.
