Corrupt Database?

When I start the game and try to load my (several year-long, very valuable to me) league, the game gets to 6% loaded (Loading League) and then hangs with the error "The Loading of the Database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version." I am running 2007 with the most recent patch on a stable machine, and have not encountered a similar problem before. Any advice? I'd really hate to lose the countless hours I've put into this league (5-time world champions). Thanks for any help you can give. Ian

Can you FTP the files to us by following the instructions here:

Thanks!

I'm having the exact same issue. It seemed like the problem was fixed but it just came back. Some GM's play in multiple leagues and are experiencing this problem for both leagues. I need to fix this ASAP cause it's affecting my league.

I too am having this problem. I have no problem ftp-ing the files but, what do I do in the interim? I play this game every day and may go into deep withdrawals if I have to wait long on a solution.

My corruption occurred late last night right after an attempt to execute a trade. The game froze my computer. I had to power-off to get out of it. Ever since, I get the "The loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version message". PLEASE HELP!!

Not wishing to tread on Tech's toes, but if the corruption is in loading leagues then that would imply world.dat - I'm willing to have a look through your world.dat and see where it falls over when I load it through my dll which might give a clue to what the corruption is, and maybe how/if it can be fixed.

PM me for email address if you want to take the chance (mwahhahahaha)

I once lost a league that I had simmed for 40-something years. What happened was that I added two expansion teams. I was able to successfully save my league and exit the program, but the next time that I loaded it, I got the Corrupt Database message. Very frustrating.

Just happened to me, too. Hadn't even begun to play the league, but had several hours into setup.

I know nobody here wants to hear this (especially those with corrupt files), but you've GOT TO back up your leagues often -- and always before making any major changes to the league (such as adding minors). I always back up my leagues, at a minimum, on December 31 before advancing to the next year.

Simply copy the .lg folder to another location.

Then the worst that can happen is you have to repeat one season. Still frustrating, but much better than losing 40 of them.

Anyway ... sorry to be preachy. It seemed like a good opportunity, though.

I'm all about backing league files up. But...I've had corrupt files WAY more often than I should. I autosave once a month, and try and backup my database around that often as well.

This last file hadn't even been simmed. Still in the setup phase.

I understand planned redundancy, but I believe there is a problem here. The only other game I've played (keep in mind that I'm not a HUGE gamer) in the past few years that has corrupted/crashed this much has been stuff from Maxis, and I don't play their games anymore because of it.

At what point would you consider having to back up files unacceptable? Once per sim year? Half year? Month? Week?

I'm not trying to be preachy either, but I don't think backing files up is the end all solution to this problem.

And now I've got a truly bizarre situation.

The game crashed (no big shock there), but now when I try and load the game, it freezes while loading faces, and then attempts to start OOTP again, so I've got two 'Out of the Park Baseball' applications running simultaneously when I only started one.

I'm assuming my database is once more shot. This time I made it past the inaugural draft, and into the first week of February.

Why it's trying to start the game again, 'inside' of the game, is beyond me.

And...yes, I backed up the game. Made a template. I guess I'll start backing it up every week in-game now.

I'm tired, so apologies for the lack of manners, but I'm displeased, and not looking forward to these problem with our online league...AT ALL.

I had the same problem (crash on 93% - loading faces) and was able to fix it by just deleting the faces.dat file.

Thank you very much G&G.

I'll give that a whirl later today.

FYI: The two copies of the game you see in the task manager is not really two copies of the game running. One is the game and the other is actually the hint window.

Meaning the 'progress bar' window, in this case, I'm assuming?

New to this thread but I'm getting a similar problem. I saved my .lg, and am now trying to restore it after formatting my hd. Now i'm getting a "loading of the data base is either corrupt...." error message when I try to load my world.dat file. I've rar'd my .dat files for you to take a look but after logging into ftp I get an "error occurred copying files to ftp. Make sure you have permission to put files on server" when I try pastng my .rar file into the game-save folder. .

Hi there.

I'm very sorry this issue has sat here for so long without a response. Us volunteers are a little on the burnt-out side right now! That's not an excuse, though, but let's see if we can make some progress, if you're still around after all this time...

On the other hand, so many people have posted in this thread, I'm not quite sure where to start.

Deleting faces.dat is definitely the way to fix things if the program is freezing on faces.dat.

Er, so, who else is currently having an issue?

As we haven't heard back on this one in a week, it will be closed for housekeeping reasons. If you need any further help with this issue, please post a link to this thread in Tech Support. Thanks.
