Wow, darkhorse is quick! He whipped off these two in the time it took me to type my preceding one.

They also demoted Clippard.

.337 ain't a good OBP no matter what your age or position might be. Cano's going to need to learn how to take a pitch if he wants to become a top-notch hitter.

Didn't catch that bit, but that pair are far superior prospects to Clippard.

A .280 equivalent average for a second baseman is excellent.

Cano already has a year's experience as a top-notch hitter.

Kennedy may not be. Joba certainly is.

I dunno. Passing through two levels and making it to AAA in your first full season of pro ball, at age 22, is pretty solid.

That year's starting to look like a flukish outlier, though, considering how closely his line this year mirrors that of his rookie year and how high his BABIP was last season (.368).

Don't get me wrong, he's still a very good hitter for a second baseman and I think the Yanks would be foolish not to hold onto him. He needs to learn how to take a pitch if he's going to turn into the second coming of Rod Carew that he's been talked up to be, though.

Clippard, oddly, is younger and did well for himself in the minors, too. I just don't think either of them are going to be very good major leaguers given the marginal stuff for both of them. 89 MPH straight FB with some ok offspeed stuff just doesn't translate well.

Joba, though, is probably the 2d best SP in the minors behind Buchholz. BA called him the #4 or 5, iirc (Bailey, Kershaw, Buchholz, McGee?), and his stats back it up. D00d can dial it up. Looked great in the futures, fwiw.

If they fill out the backend of your rotation, that might be a good thing.

The lead has shrunk to 6.5.

Curt Schilling is shooting off his mouth(Not that I don't agree with him, because I do).

Things are getting fun

What's the record for the lowest number of total runs scored in a series? Two in two games so far.

Well, it's not possible to score fewer than that, so they're off to a good start.

First things first. Right now I'm focused on Cleveland, to the point that I am actually rooting for Boston to win.

P.S., what a pitching duel last night, Carmona vs. Beckett.

To get to 95 wins the Yanks now need to play .661 baseball the rest of the way.

The Red Sox only have to play .551.

Looks like the two teams will have to do a total reversal this second half. And even with that the Yanks will still have to play better than the Red Sox did in the first half. The Sox only need to play a bit better than the Yankees and their first half.

I still don't say the Yanks catch them. 6.5 games isn't that easy.

Nothing wrong with the wild card. The way this season started, I would still be amazed if we got that.

Here's a little clip from Newsday:

Quote:
addition to the possibility of outside help, the Yankees are giving thought to promoting Joba Chamberlain to the bullpen. Chamberlain was promoted from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this week. In 14 starts at Trenton and Class-A Tampa, the power pitcher had a combined 2.72 ERA with 26 walks and 115 strikeouts in 79 1/3 innings. In his first outing at Triple-A last night, he pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk, striking out 10.

Philip Hughes and Joba Chamberlain for Mark Teixeira sounds like a fair exchange.
