Playoff seedings

I posted this in the general discussions forum, and somebody suggested that I should post this here, so here goes:

I set up an NFL-style league (2 conferences, 4 divisions per conference, 4 teams in each division). I turned the wild cards on for the playoffs.

The problem that I ran into was that the first round was seeded correctly. 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc. However when I got to the second round, the game had the winner of 1 vs. 8 play the winner of 2 vs. 7. This makes no sense. The winner of 1 vs. 8 should play the winner of 4 vs. 5. Unfortunately, I'd imagine that there is no way to fix this.

Also, somebody mentioned that they wanted the playoffs set up so that they could reseed after each round. For example, if #1 beat #8 and #7 beat #2, then #1 would play #7 in the next round.

I know that this is logged but I want to add a few suggestions as I remember seeing a post from Battists saying that some of the playoff seeding issues were likely to be addressed in Patch 3.

I agree that the primary issues is the improper seeding where the first round is correct (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc.) but the second round tracks for 1 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 4 which is obviously wrong.

One suggestion is that we be allowed to alter the playoff matchups at the start of each round. This would allow us to fix the core issue mannually and would also allow us to handle seedings NHL style where the remaining seeds are evaluated at the start of each round. If the 8, 4, 2, and 3 seeds make it through the first round then a straight bracket has the 4-8 & 2-3 match ups in round two. If we could mannually edit the seeding then you could set the 2-8 & 3-4 pairings.

Finally, I would like to reitterate a HUGE addition would be to allow NFL style playoffs where you can have bye weeks. The scenario that I would like to run is one with three division winners and two wild cards. The two wild cards play either a one or three game playoff to see who joins the division winners for the rest of the playoffs.

Of course NCAA style double elimination tournaments would be great as well as the ability to have playoffs between different leages winners would be nice additions as well but I have a feeling that those would be more complex, maybe BM08?

Thanks and be well Marcus!

I like all of the professor's ideas, but the above quoted is the one I've been pushing for since I joined up a year ago.
