Ankit, how goes your work on the revised database? Do you have a tenative ETA yet? I anxiously await the finished database. Thanks for taking the time to create it

Ankit,
While importing 1974, I noticed Lee May and Milt May had improper positions and fielding ratings. I checked the DB and they are not in it. I also noticed that Mike Easler imported for them with an assigned position and FAvg of .930 on that team. It is possible that he just pinch hit that season as he has no DB info for 1974. I have noticed a few others that are assigned FAvg's and positions. Do you think we could go into the DB and find people who did not have a fielding position for a year and give them the career avg for that season? Is there any realatively easy way to do that? |

Ankit,
I found a few others missing from the DB. PM or e-mail me for more info. I'll be glad to help out in any way I can because this DB puts the fun in historical replays. |

I have created the AnkitDB for OOTP 5.0. You can download it here:
http://www.ap4e.com/AnkitDB5.zip About 3.5 megs and all the needed files are there. Just unzip to a folder and use. rwd59, use this DB and see if you still get a lot of errors. Here are the changes: Here it is, the AnkitDB using Lahman DB 5.0 for OOTP 5.0! I have listed what I did to the original database. If you have any comments or suggestions or criticims, I can be reached at ankitpayal@hotmail.com This is what I did to the original Lahman 5.0 database. 1. Added debut dates for players missing them (812 players). 2. Deleted all those that never played baseball; were commissioners, umpires, etc (149 guys). 3. Deleted all players who did not play a position, just had a few pinch hit appearances (186 players). 4. Created duplicates of certain players (21) who excelled as both pitchers and batters while doing both for a minimum of 4 seasons. A list of those 21 players is at the bottom. 5. Removed all pitching related entries for hitters from both pitching and fielding files. 6. Removed all non-pitcher fielding entries for pitchers. 7. The fielding information for all players is now based on career averages, provided that he played at a position for at least 10% of his total Games. For those positions where he played less, that position is no longer listed. 8. If a batter had at least 4,500 ABs in his career, his debut year is now the first season in which he had more than 238 ABs. 9. If a batter had at least 1,350 ABs in his career, his debut year is now the first season in which he had more than 130 ABs. 10. If a pitcher had at least 1,450 IPs in his career, his debut year is now the first season in which he had more than 92 2/3 IPs. 11. If a pitcher had more than 434 IPs in his career, his debut year is now the first season in which he had more than 48 2/3 IPs. 12. Deleted all batters who debuted prior to 1996 and had less than 62 career at-bats. (2,296 batters affected) 13. Deleted all pitchers who debuted prior to 1996 and had less than 20 career IP. (1,477 pitchers affected) 14. If a batter made his debut prior to 1996 and had fewer than 1350 ABs and averaged less than 100 at-bats per season, the maximum talent ratings will not be higher than Fair nor will the actual ratings be higher than 4 for any season, and thus by extension, their careers. This makes sure scrubs will be scrubs. This affected 3,945 players but only 204 had 500 or more career at-bats. 15. If a pitcher made his debut prior to 1996 and had fewer than 434 IP and averaged less than 27 IP per season, the maximum talent ratings will not be higher than Fair nor will the actual ratings be higher than 4 for any season, and thus by extension, their careers. This makes sure scrubs will be scrubs. This affected 2,338 players but only 90 had 100 or more career innings pitched. ==== The duplicate players: playerID Pos SumOfG First Last Career LahmanID bressru01 OF Rube Bressler 1919,1921-1932 1527 bressra01 P 107 Raymond Bressler 1914-1920 15639 callani01 OF Nixey Callahan 1897,1903-1913 1983 callaja01 P 195 James Callahan 1897-1902 15637 carutbo01 OF Bob Caruthers 1886-1893 2172 carutro01 P 340 Robert Caruthers 1884-1892 15631 coonejo01 OF Johnny Cooney 1935-1944 2807 coonejo02 P 159 John Cooney 1921-1930 15640 dailyed01 OF Ed Daily 1886-1891 3182 dailyed02 P 151 Edward Daily 1885-1888,90,91 15641 dunnja01 3B Jack Dunn 1901-1904 3865 dunnjo02 P 142 John Dunn 1897-1901 15642 foutzda01 1B Dave Foutz 1886-1896 4546 foutzda02 P 251 David Foutz 1884-1893 15634 gleaski01 2B Kid Gleason 1895-1912 5078 gleaswi01 P 299 William Gleason 1888-1895 15632 jeffcha01 OF Hal Jeffcoat 1948-1953 6777 jeffcha02 P 245 Harold Jeffcoat 1954-1959 15635 ruthba01 OF Babe Ruth 1918-1935 12094 ruthge01 P 163 George Ruth 1914-1919 15638 seymocy01 OF Cy Seymour 1901-1913 12744 seymoja02 P 140 James Seymour 1896-1900 15643 smithel01 OF Elmer Smith 1892-1901 13115 smithel03 P 149 El Smith 1886-1892 15644 vanhage01 OF George Van Haltren 1888-1903 14431 vanhari01 P 93 Rip Van Haltren 1887-1888,90,91 15645 wardjo01 SS John Ward 1881-1894 14519 wardmo01 P 292 Monte Ward 1878-1884 15633 woodjo02 OF Joe Wood 1918-1922 15154 woodsm01 P 225 Smokey Wood 1908-1917 15636 yeagejo01 3B Joe Yeager 1903-1908 15491 yeagejo02 P 94 Joseph Yeager 1898-1902 15646 playerID PriPos G Name craneed01 P Ed Crane 1886-1893 craneed02 OF 145 Edward Crane 1884-1886 15647 maulal01 P Al Maul 1890-1901 8928 maulal02 OF 185 Albert Maul 1888-1891 15648 russere01 P Reb Russell 1913-1919 12251 russeew01 OF 138 Ewell Russell 1922-1923 15649 stiveja01 P Jack Stivetts 1889-1897 13560 stivejo01 OF 141 John Stivetts 1891-1894,96-99 15650 whitnji01 P Jim Whitney 1881-1890 15029 whitnja01 OF 130 James Whitney 1883-1886 15651 ========= Still to do: 16. 3,874 pitchers who were relievers but had a few games started have had their records changed to have 0 GS, so they will import will proper pitching roles. 14 pitchers had over 1,450 IPs. 17. Adjusted pitching records for pitchers from 1901 - 1920 to be normalized for the years 1921 to 1979. The following entries were changed: Hits, Earned Runs, Walks and Strikeouts. This will give players more accurate talents and ratings. Now, not everybody imports with a 9 or 10 for ERA. There are visible differences and pitchers who were dominant will be dominant and get to pitch as well. 18. Career Averages for data in the FieldingOF.csv file.
