Question Is Hopkins/Wright worth $50 PPV?

I'm seriously thinking about waiting to see this fight on 7/28 before the live fight HBO has that night.

I'm almost positive it will go to a decision & can wait a week to see that. I'd like to see the WBO LW champ from Australia but I don't think watching him blow out some guy is worth $50 either.

Part of the reason I like live PPV fights is I like to see KO's live - rather than read about them & know what round the KO is coming.

No way am I buying this ... two cranky old guys who won't throw a punch for the first 7 rounds.

Good, me neither - my brother agrees too that we can wait for the 28th.

Even with no other boxing on this weekend I can't justify buying a fight between to old fighters neither of whom I even remotely like. I completely do not care who wins this fight.

Not getting my PPV $ either. I'll wait the week and record it. Even then, I have a strong suspicion I'll be using the Fast Forward button more than once.

$50...forget it. I can wait a week.

If your one of the guys who wants to buy it for the undercard, you can always find someone out there who will trade it to you if you have a decent fight collection yourself.

$20-$30 is more reasonable, though I hate the idea of PPV anyway.

We get it on Sky in the UK on Sky Sports 1, one of the subscription channels, so its not a PPV, but i dont even think this one is worth staying up into the early hours for, never mind paying for it. Wright takes the decision for me in a fight which is so boring that by the end nobody really cares

This fight isn't even worth getting. Both guy will throw seven punches each round and whoever throws three punches in the last ten seconds will obviously think they have won the round.

My gut tells me this fight will end in a draw and we'll hear more complaining from Wright and Hopkins about deserving the "victory"

I'm completely with you on this. There are very few fights (if any) that I'm willing to shell out $50+ for. On the other hand, I would almost be willing to put out $20 each weekend for a 5-6 fight PPV card. I don't care if there are big names or not, I just want to spend a couple of hours watching a well produced boxing show.

Agree 100% with that comment .. I'd put out 24.95$ for just about any card

I rather shell out $30 bucks just to see lesser known fighters than spending $50 bucks to watch big name fighters with boring fighting styles that stink out the joint.

The undercards of Hopkins/Wright and Vargas/Mayorga have more appeal to me than the main events themselves.

I agree.

No telling what sort/level of fight it will be but I think the Vargas fight might be more entertaining - for as long as it lasts.

I think Vargas/Mayorga will be more enetertaning main event but the undercard for it is pretty good. Collazo/Mitchell and Santos/Rivera are not too shabby.

Exactly, that's why I wanted to see that PPV card.

I can't recall if Showtime shows their PPV fights the next week like HBO but even if they did, I doubt they'd show those undercard bouts.

I don't remember either. Last PPV that SHO did was back in 2003 if I recall right (Holyfield vs. Toney).

I'm probably going to wait until after the fight is over and snag it off torrents if I can't find somewhere streaming it. I'm interested in the fight but not enough to pay 50$ for it.

Seven a round!?!? LOL, Final punch stat numbers?

Hopkins 12-84, 14%
Wright 20-84, 24%
Wright wins 119-118, 9 even rounds

I respect and admire Hopkins' and Wright's ability in the ring. They have a job to do and they do it well. But my job, for my free time, is to find entertainment for myself, and Hopkins vs Wright doesn't hold much potential to be entertaining. I'd make time to watch this on HBO, but I will not spend $50 to see it.
