Federal Baseball League
In this dynasty, I will be rewriting baseball history by creating a new league in 1900 to rival the National League. All settings are set to what they would be realistically in 1900--high pitcher stamina, low power for hitters, etc. There will be all fictional players, and the league will start off with all players as free agents. The story begins on the first day of the new century.
January 1, 1900 FORMATION OF ROCKEFELLER'S BASEBALL LEAGUE NEAR John D. Rockefeller met yesterday in his New York office with the titans of big business to discuss the funding and formation of Mr. Rockefeller's proposed baseball league, which would begin play later this year. Among the attendees at the meeting were steel industrialist Andrew Carnegie, timber mogul Frederick Weyerhauser, retail giant Marshall Field, financier J.P. Morgan, Mr. Rockefeller's associate Oliver H. Payne, and H. C. Frick, a former associate of Mr. Carnegie. The meeting was scheduled to review the funding of the new league, as it will needs thousands to get off the ground and compete with the National League of Baseball. Mr. Rockefeller's plan originally entailed Cornelius Vanderbilt II, who tragically passed at the age of 56 last year. Mr. Rockefeller's plan involves getting businessmen like him to buy the clubs in his league so they have ample financial backing. Also, the idea entails putting anywhere from 10-20 clubs from the Atlantic to the Mississippi River in permanent stadiums. In the meeting, Mr. Rockefeller said he told the other members of this investment about the way the league would run. There will be one commissioner of the game and the owners of the clubs will serve as the Board of Trustees for the league. The league, Mr. Rockefeller said in a statement, will most likely begin play in the spring of this year, and the ownerships will be worked out immediately. |
