I'm not sure my boy Cotto could beat Willams considering there would be an 8 inch height advantage but at least Cotto is able to cut the ring off. Margarito just followed him the whole fight. If he had fought the way he did in the 10th and 11th the whole fight then he would of had a shot.

Any shot he had of fighting Mayweather or Mosley just went right out the window. If I am Cotto, then I don't fight him either. More money out there than fighting Margarito. I'd like to see Cintron get another crack at him.

yea Cintron Maragarito 2 seems the way to go now. Williams impressed me, I thought he really gave Tony a lesson last night.

I really think Cintron has a good chance of winning a rematch with Margarito. He has Manny Stewart in his corner and Cintron will fight a much smarter fight and not try and go toe to toe with him.

Cotto/Williams would be a hell of a fight if that did come off. Not sure if Cotto can reach Williams and land his trademark body shots. Right now it's too tough to call.

I think Cotto eventually breaks Williams down because he would cut off the ring instead of follow, but it would be tough dealing with the height, speed and volume of punches. Definitely a fight I'd like to see.

I got a kick out of how quickly the boys from HBO backpedaled when Lamps suggested the intrigue of a Cotto/Williams matchup. They're already gearing up to hype Cotto/Mosely/Mayweather/DLH welterweight PPV showdowns, and the last thing they want is boxing fans demanding Cotto/Williams instead.

As soon as Lamps uttered the words, you just know that the program director was immediately on those earpieces telling them shut up about Cotto/Williams. So Merchant jumped in to make it clear that Cotto/Mosely was next, and Lampley gave his, "no, no, no, I mean a loong way down the road" stutter.

Unfortunately, it may mean that Williams is going to be odd man out for a while. At least there's depth in the welters; if they'll just continue to fight each other we could have some quality non-PPV showdowns.

And I rewatched the fight and this time tried not to score any 10-10s, came out with 116-112 Williams as I suspected I might have last night.
I noticed this too, he did seem very unstable at times, he needs to work on his footwork definitely. The first 5 rounds were a real masterclass of how the taller fighter with long reach should approach a fight like this. Margarito couldnt even get close. Williams tired late on but he kept himself busy all fight and was clearly the winner.

The two knockouts were fairly sickening

I guess I'm in the minority that wasn't too impressed with Williams or Margarito (on a world class level). I wouldn't give either of them much of a chance against Mayweather or Cotto. I'd probably make time to see them if they were on HBO again though, they definitely were entertaining.

I had Paul Williams 117-111, in a coast. I don't think he punches very hard. If he fights cotto, it will be interesting.

I went between 117-111 and 116-112. I gave the 5th, 10th and 11th to Margarito. IMO you can talk all you want about 1 punch being more meaningful but when the other guy lands 6 to that 1, it just isn't THAT meaningl.

I think people gave Margarito too much credit for being the "aggressor" but IMO just because Margarito followed Williams around the ring didn't make him more aggressive. He didn't cut the ring off, didn't throw punches so it wasn't exactly "effective aggression"

This day and age I think people think it's cool to disagree with the HBO announcers. Most of the time they know what they are talking about.
