First Amateur Draft--Now What?
OK, so I just had my first year draft playing with 2007 historical rosters. My minors now have waaaaaay to many people. Do I wait until the end of the season to do a purge, with some attrition through nonrenewal of contracts? Do I just release a bunch of people? If so, how to choose--none of the players in rookie ball look promising. Is there anyway to try to distinguish wheat from chaff?

Any time is a good time to purge. But, then, I revel in rebuilding franchises and clearing out anyone I don't like. The first thing I do when taking over a franchise is cutting everyone that I don't think has much of a future.
As for trying to determine who to keep and who not to, when talents are very similar I start looking at secondary ratings - speed, base running, intelligence and work ethic, so on and so forth. These guys may not develop, but if they do they would be more useful than a guy who develops and has no speed or anything else. |
