Arena Baseball Online

Quote:
Please post your online league here, along with a brief description, in this format:

- Arena Baseball
- I will set one up....
- Fictional
- It's Arena Baseball!
- We'll start with 8
- OOTP 2K7

I've been writing dynasties about Arena Baseball since OOTP 6.0 and most recently a few months ago, but OOTP2K7 makes it really doable and it's fun. I'm tired of writing solo dynasties about it that don't get anyone really into it and would love to put together an online league.

But I don't know if there is interest. So if you're interested, post here and we'll hash our the details and go from there.

I may be interested in getting in on this... I usually don't like the fictional leagues.. but sounds interesting especially if I got in at ground level and could name my own team and arena...

Completely from scratch league, you can make your own team and your own arena. The arena factors are generally the same. (In my dynasties, I always just name one 'arena' the Arena and call it a day. But for this, we'd deviate that)

I imagine there would be an inaugral draft too.

I'm definitely interested in this too.
I've read about arena baseball in the past and think its creative and fun.
I'm very new to online leagues and just getting started with the 77 Orioles in an online historical replay league.
Since I'm so new to online leagues and you're starting with such a small league I'd understand if you chose a more experienced GM for starting up your league.
But, if you find you need another to get things going and don't mind giving a newbie a try...well, I'd be onboard.

The idea behind this originally is to use fictional players, because it makes sense and using real players might eliminate a lot of the mystery.

I'm going to come up with a setup for this and then we'll go ahead and try to get something started in the next few days that I'll post once I have more information, given the amount of interest.

Sweet.

Ok, so this league is a-go. I'm setting it up right now. There are a few questions I have related to the setup that I'd like some feedback on.

First off, because it's an arena league and there is all sorts of tweaking required to 'get it right', there will be a bit of history before we get started. Umm..beyond that, I'll allow team moves within reason. For instance, no putting teams in random places where there is no context for such things. I'd like to make it 'seem' or 'feel' like a real arena league, even though it's obviously not.

All of the players will be fictional, because that makes sense, too.

I will not have a team in the league, I'll just run it. I like it better that way and given the way we're starting, I think that's the fairest way to do it.

I'll setup the league web site and go from there with it all. Let's use this thread as a place for discussions about what you'd like to see, questions you have and all of that. Even potential team names. I don't have a problem with that.

I think it'll be a relatively 'quick-sim' league, because I prefer that model and plus, no one gets bored that way and we can keep things moving along.

I'll have more later...

The backstory will be like this.

The league began in 1988. As most leagues do, there are all sorts of changes, team moves, strife and the such alike. As the 1990s heats up, interest in the league begins to surge as well. The strike of 1994 and the 1995 lockout of MLB are what spur the major interest in Arena Baseball as a 'new' pasttime.

And that's when, our group of hungry, young and oh..did I mention rich? owners come in and try to cash in on what promises to be the 'next big thing'.

So there will be history, but few restrictions on where teams are moved to if that's the desire of the owner, so long as the teams stick to the US and Canada for the time being.

More info tomorrow on rules and stuff, but...I wanted to tweak the model to make sure it would work first and that the numbers weren't crazy before we got moving. I think we'll be all right and of course, we can make adjustments as necessary down the road.

But..I think this will be a lot of fun.
