Hi all:
I'm new to the game and just started my first historical league (beginning in 1960; still in the first year). I'm having a great time, but the league seems a little juiced at this point (it's about two weeks from the All-Star Break; I'm playing out every inning of every game atm, because I think it's so cool). I realize this is a tiny statistical sample, but in both the AL & NL league batting averages, OBP, and Slugging are running 20-25 points higher than the real-life totals, and the league E.R.A's, are, of course, higher too, about 3/4 of an earned run higher for both leagues. I set the league up using the wizard, and I think I have a pretty standard set-up, and I haven't tinkered around under the hood. Does this seem within the range of statistical variation that can be expected in historical sims? I felt like the pitcher's batter ratings seemed a little high at creation, and I haven't crunched the numbers, but it seems like there are a number of pitchers sporting hefty averages, and I was thinking that perhaps this is contributing to the bloat. Have I gotten my league off on the wrong foot, or does this seem normal? Sorry for the noobery and thanks for your help. |

If you have the game set to auto adjust league totals modifiers for historical accuracy you will be fine in subsequent seasons. However, it takes at least one full season of play for that function of the game to kick in. If you really want to start in 1960 and play that particular season out game by game, then I suggest doing the initial import in 1957 and quick simming until 1960, by then you will have incredibly accurate league totals ratios.
