The next time that the voters (whether players, fans, coaches, etc.) get the All-Star selections correct will be the first time.

Quote:
Didn't Cincinnati stuff the ballot so bad one year that they actually took guys off the team? This pales in comparison to that, IMO.

There are tons of instances every year where ballot stuffing gets players in. There's also the homer picks for the game's venue and for the presiding managers. And the fact that every team gets a player. Gil Meche, indeed.
All of which makes the ASG silly. Diverting enough, and the traditions are sweet, but the game itself is a non-event in terms of competition. Which makes (and this is my point) it fundamentally CRAZY that the winner gets homefield advantage in the WS. Absolutely ridiculous. On a side note, Chris Berman's 'theatrics' during the Home Run Derby are also irritating.

Didn't griffey get voted onto the team a few of those years that he missed most the season just because he was so popular fans would vote him on just because he was that popular?

Undoubtedly. That happens for a lot of players, though. Griffey votes are borderline forgivable given he's been one of the greatest players of his generation.

Maybe next time they should pre-sell All Star game tickets, and only let those who bought the tickets vote! Probably also make it PPV on TV, and those who purchased the game could vote too. It's a festival for fans, and we should let those who pay decide who get to join!
