Awesome! I can't believe Meyers dropped that far to me. He is older, but I would think people needed top catchers more. Looks like I won't be hurting for catchers anymore, since I picked up 2 more in the later rounds.

How the...? What the...?
Last I checked the Cubs were below .500 going into August. That was one hot month! I can't believe we snuck into the pennant this year. Especially with the aged collapse of the right side of my infield - and having to use Tony Larussa on a regular basis.... I think I'm going to need some luck against the Browns this year... |

1918 Season Wrap-Up
CUBS REPEAT AS CHAMPIONS
The Chicago Cubs swept the St. Louis Browns in a rematch of the 1917 World Series to repeat as world champions. The Cubs came from behind in game one and never trailed again as they won 6-4, 11-1, 5-4 and 3-0 to capture the title. Warren Spahn twice defeated Jim Kaat and earned Series MVP honors with a 2-0, 1.50 ERA for the Fall Classic. Joe Harris of the Cubs also was considered as he hit .500 for the Series. For the Browns, Dwight Evans hit .600 with the Series' only home run and drove in four runs as well. ORR, DEMAREE LEAD HIT PARADE Cleveland's venerable hit machine Dave Orr reclaimed the top spot in the Junior Loop's hitting standings with a solid .371 average in the war-shortened 1918 season. The 35-year-old Orr has a .343 lifetime average with an even 2300 career hits for the Indians. In the National League, Frank Demaree of the eventual-champion Cubs was the batting titlist with a .365 mark. It was a career year for the 30-year-old, raising his career average to .316 and follows a season which saw him hit .308 after two seasons with sub-.300 averages. SPAHN & PASTORE ARE TOP HURLERS Chicago's Warren Spahn was the National League's top pitcher for 1918. He posted a 20-13 mark with a 2.08 ERA and tossed 31 complete games in 33 starts for the Cubbies. The 32-year-old Spahn now has a career ledger of 259 victories against 147 defeats with a 2.28 ERA. 1918 marked the fifth time in his illustrious career that Spahn was named the top pitcher. Browns' ace Frank Pastore (he of the 1.57 ERA in 1917) was a repeat performer as AL pitcher of the year in 1918, winning 22 games against 12 defeats and posting a 2.48 ERA. It was the third POTY award for Pastore who won in both 1915 and 1917 and the 27-year-old pitcher is just entering the "prime" of his career so more kudos could be coming his way in the future.

Two GM Openings in BaTTY
Still 80+ seasons of baseball to be played and two teams are available - the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates. Both are teams with some upside. The Cardinals finished three back of the eventual World Series champion Cubs in the NL and have a superstar in shortstop Robin Yount as well as a couple of star outfielders by the names of Andre Dawson and Barry Bonds. The Pirates are somewhat less talented, but do possess both Hank Greenberg and Duke Snider as well as a HOF-bound pitcher in Jim Scott (who has a career ERA of 1.87 and a record of 237-122).
Anyone interested can PM me here on send an email to commish-at-legendsport.com Thanks!

If anybody needs pitching, the Browns have Billy Taylor. He's 33, but ratings are 4/6/8--could probably help out a contender. I'm just looking for a decent-hitting OF, or maybe a younger SS with a good glove. But I'll consider any offer. Send me a PM if interested.

June '19 Update
DOGFIGHT SHAPES UP IN AL, NL LOOKING LIKE TWO HORSE RACE
The Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are both looking like world beaters with 27-13 records thus far in the 1919 season. Unfortunately they're both in the National League and only one of them can win the pennant (assuming they both continue to dominate as they have been). The American League, on the other hand, is wide open, with six of the eight teams possessing .500 or better records and even the seventh-place Washington club is only five games back of the leading (for now - the lead seems to change on a daily basis) Boston Red Sox. There is a three-way tie for second - one game back - between the St. Louis Browns, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Athletics. A's rookie Mickey Mantle has very good thus far, hitting .314 with a pair of homers and 19 runs batted in, but he's just a blip on the radar among league leaders with Washington's Charlie Grimm the biggest dog on the block with a .417 average (Roger Connor of the Yankees is second at .358). The NL also features a .400 hitter as Chicago's Frank Demaree's .404 mark leads the Senior Circuit. 35-year-old Juan Pizarro is enjoying a resurgent season with a 6-1 mark and league-best 1.54 ERA for the Cubs. Boston has the AL leader in wins (Fred Heimach with 7) and ERA (Rudy Seanez, 2.01).

Tigers pitching staff is showing signs of being good so with the top ranked minor league system its time to start to move some of these guys up and see who can hit.
On a side note I still think theirs something going on in the minors as very few seem to develop.... after three full seasons at AA I moving Johnny Bench up to AAA dispite the game saying hes not ready. |

..... The scouts are idiots. The only way you should evaluate your players in the minors is by ratings and stats (taking into account which era you're in).

Trade Deadline Update 1919
RED SOX, CUBS OPEN LEADS IN PENNANT CHASE
The very tightly bunched American League pennant chase opened up a bit in June and July as the Boston Red Sox asserted themselves and moved to a nine-game edge on the second-place Philadelphia Athletics. The Browns, Indians and Senators remain on the edge of contention, while the Yankees have fallen off the pace once again. The Sox are winning with their pitching - the rotation is a combined 54-30 on the season and the team ERA is a league-best 2.55 for the staff as a whole. One problem: Greg Minton, who at 10-4, 2.29 has been one of the best Sox hurlers, is out for 2-4 weeks with a rotator cuff injury. The cushion is large - but is it large enough to overcome Minton's loss in a shortened 140-game season with 46 games left to play? Over in the National League, the Cubs are having a huge season and have pushed out to an eight-game edge over Brooklyn (which is also have a good season - just not on a historic level like Chicago). The Cubs' record is 66-28 - a .706 winning percentage which is a pace better than that set by the 1911 Pittsburgh Pirates whose 104-win, .675-percentage season is the best in BaTTY history. It is that huge winning percentage that gives them such a big lead on Brooklyn, who at 58-36 would be just two back if they played in the AL. Chicago is simply loaded - the league's best lineup with a .280 average and 451 runs scored (both league bests) and a pitching staff second only to the Red Sox in BaTTY with a 2.80 staff ERA. Warren Spahn is 17-7 to lead the league in victories and Carl Pavano has 16 wins, while fourth starter Juan Pizarro leads the league with a 2.07 ERA.

End of Regular Season - 1919
WORLD SERIES SHAPES UP AS CLASH OF TITANS
For the first time in league history, the World Series will feature not one, but two teams of outstanding caliber, who enter the Classic after completely dominating their respective loops. Perennial powerhouse Chicago again won the National League, this time by thirteen games - over a team which had a .593 winning percentage (a very good Brooklyn squad) - with a 96-44 record and .686 winning percentage. The American League titlists, the Boston Red Sox, came out of the pack in June and were a juggernaut during the second half of the season, piling up a 94-46 record and winning the pennant by seventeen games over the St. Louis Browns. Both clubs are outstanding in one aspect of the game - for Boston it's the pitching, for Chicago - hitting, so the World Series shapes up as a potentially great one.
